Is there a way to be asked to be stationed at another base?

or is there a rule for how long you have to stay at your first base?

The PCS cycle is back up and running.
Normally, first term airmen are required to stay on base at least one fiscal year and career airmen two. Current AF policy is that first term airmen will be stationed at a base for two years; career airmen for three.
You always want to keep your dream sheet updated; not every job is advertised on the EQUAL and you should have bases you really want on your dream sheet...You do not have to fill all 8 choices if you only want 5 or 6....tha'ts a good way to get stationed somewhere you don't want! The Air Force recently stopped allowing airmen to pull their volunteer statements so don't put in for something you don't want. Another idea is look at special duties and swaps. Customer service at your MPF is a good starting point.

NOTE: The five year rule was only for certain special duties and was recently lifted. The PCS budget is almost what it should be. Please don't listen to the guy that says go to your commanding general.....I don't know if he is trying to be funny or what.

What do u think that u-r- out in civilian life n can request to be moved to another base I mean u have to have a very serious reason to ask to be transferred to new duty station, because once u-r assigned to a new command u-r there for how long ur rotation u know that ur self.
I mean u can put in a request to ur commanding officer for a request to transfer n it will have to go all the way up through the chain of command to the commanding General,so before u do u better have one hell! of a reason u-r requesting this or it is not going to happen n yes!by this it is obvious I served in the military as well right!

Just keep updating that dream sheet. That's really all he can do. The EQUAL listing come out several times a year and he can change his dream sheet to the bases that have positions open for his AFSC.
Right now the AF is moving personnel every 5 years and often times more than that due to budget cuts. Here at Eglin, I know people that have been here for 10 years!

I believe you have to be at your first assignment at least 12 months before you can request a transfer. At that point, your husband would have to see where there are openings for his rank, in his career field and than ask to be considered for a transfer to one of them. There is no garuntee it will be granted, even if the position is available. Most unite prefer to hold onto thier people for the duration of the assignment rather than spend time training them and then loosing them to another base. Most assignments will last 3 yrs (since he has dependents). At that point, he may have a better shot of being moved. The best thing to do is have your husband talk to his supervisor or first shirt...they can explain the process, options, time frames and give him a better idea on what the odds are.

Request a transfer to a base with the same needed AF SC your husband has. They will either turn you down or allow it. But there has to be a need for his AF SC at his pay grade or less for it to happen ( unless there are under lying problems with him). Good Luck.

from what I understand, recently it came down that AF personnel must do a minimum of five years on station before they can even THINK about requesting a PCS. They are really cutting back on PCS funds overall.
