at what age are dogs (dogs and bitches) able to produce puppies?

okay let me just say first. i am NOT planning on forcing some puppy to have puppies inself at the youngest age possible!

i just wondered whats the youngest age they can produce them.
so like if you had a male and a female puppy what age they could breed, so i know when to seperate them before their castrated/ speyed when their old enough.

oh and are males or females sexually active first?

Average age that a female has her first cycle is approximately 6 months BUT like people some start earlier then others so an exact age cannot be given. How old are the pups? If they are of age to be spayed and neutered that is going to be your best defense to prevent pregnancy.

Chihuahuas or smaller breeds should not be bred the first heat some smaller breeds do wait till they are 10 months old to have the first heat but this is still a puppy and most are only 3 lbs any time you breed a chihuahua under 4 lbs you are adding to the danger of labor and some do come in at 6 months a small breed should be over 4 lbs and the second heat at least

Most females will have a heat by the time they are one year old. Smaller dogs, like Chihuahuas or Min Pins can safely breed by their first cycles, but larger breed shouldn't be breed before they are two years old.

It should be safe to spay and neuter your dogs by the time they are six months old.... Which they will still be puppies and shouldn't have a problem with heat cycles.
