Within 2 months, I turn 21, and no, I don't have a driver's license. Kinda weird to see a 20-year old not having one, but eventually, I'll have friends invite me to come with them to places like pubs and such. What is another option of ID showing, proving that I'm 21? My college ID card doesn't work because it doesn't have a date of birth, so that's pointless.

Any help would be appreciated.

(Oh, and I expect answers other than 'get a driver's license')

A passport or military id will work. I use my military id all the time. You can also go to the dmv and request a photo id for verification purposes.

Two words tip me off that you may be Canadian. Pub and college. If English you would probably use pub and University.
Either way you can get a picture ID card from the same office that issues drivers licenses. I know this from an old freind who is legally blind. ( he can still see pretty women though )
He is English, moved to Canada for several years and now lives in Ca. He has his ID from all three.

Try to pair your college ID with your birth certificate. This establishes age as well as name and photo. You could try going to a Notary Public (most banks have them in the branches) to "validate" your documents to raise your authinticity. Maybe a sworn affidavit signed by you would also be helpful. Also, try to befriend bartenders/owners around where you live. Begin to seek out connections at the gym, school, etc and see if someone there works at a bar or owns one. The objective is to "get in" with them so they know who you are and that you're [gonna be] 21. That way when your friends suggest taking you out for your birthday, you can agree and suggest going to that bar, where you have already passed security!
On a side note, before you ever consider getting a driver's license, you should consider whether or not you want to sign away your Right to Travel. Seeking a "permit" and "license" admits to the State that you wish to give up your constitutional rights and submit yourself to their "rules of the road" and other contractual obligations (fines, fees, forced inspections, loss of 4th amendment protections, more taxes, etc).

You can get a State ID card which looks like a license but isn't one. All you need to get one is a birth certificate and your social security card. Make sure your birth certificate is an original with a stamp on it a copy will not do. Take my word for it. I lived without identification for a long time, I was caught in a vicious cycle of no birth cert. without ID and no ID without birth cert.

As Janet said, if you are in the United States you can get a State ID card which is similar to a Driver's license, but doesn't allow you to drive.

May I ask why you don't drive?

Most motor vehicle offices in the US will issue an official ID card with the proper identification. Call the one near you to inquire, and find out what you'd need. Probably birth certificate for starters. It'll look much like a license, but strictly an official form of ID with your picture.

Generally a state i.d. card is acceptable, you can get them at the D.M.V., just like applying for a drivers license, you will need a certified copy of your birth certificate. As for carrying your birth certificate with you to prove your age, never mind....leave it at home in a safe place. Birth certificates aren't the best bet, as they have no way of proving it's really you, since there is no picture, not to mention current one that looks like you at 21. : )

State ID. It will say you're over 21 and it will also say in big red letters "NOT A DRIVER'S LICENSE." Will let you go out and drink though.
