My gym offers prizes for bringing friends and using the facilities a certain number of times in a month. This time, they happen to be offering a cruise. :-)
Until you're able to swing something like that, just keep it simple.
1- You might want to partner with health care professionals in the area - especially those who treat diabetes and cardiovascular issues.... if a part of their diagnosis is for the patients to exercise regularly, you might want to offer a partnership of sorts where their patients come see you and your personal trainers (not for free of course, but they might be eligible for a discount).
2- Spread the word by posting flyers around.
3- Make lunchtime "wellness" presentations at area businesses that employ a large number of people. The folks bring their lunches and you pitch your gym and its benefits.
4- Offer amenities that the other gyms do not - child care, extended hours, free classes, etc.
5- Have a variety of classes such as pilates, spinning, kickboxing, body sculpting, etc.

Good luck!

this is pretty simple when you are out anywhere just bring it up conversation with someone then you can go into more detail as they ask you questions there are hundreds of people out there that want to work out and get fit there biggest problem is that they don't always feel comfortable so things to talk about your gym would be that is a friendly place and everyone is nice and that you feel very comfortable working out there that is what people want to hear well i can go on more about this subject but i think this will help you a little bit.

Are you the manager?
If so, and if you can make more rules here are some ideas:
1. Let members bring a friend a couple times a week, and they will want to start working out there (maybe since their friend does) Planet Fitness does this. But it allows members who pay 20 dollars a month to bring friends. But ones who pay the normal 10, cannot.

2. Post adds
3. Make sure you have exciting classes, like yoga, kick boxing, cardio work outs. etc
4. Make sure you have magazines and tvs in the facility.

Dang, I was just going to say move the equipment out of there and walla! More room!
But seriously,
Maybe having discounts and such as what
the previous poster said makes sense.
