Trop, once they are gone, the wages would rise to make the jobs pay a livable wage. In answer to your question, it's honest work and there is no shame it that, so if I needed a job and qualified for it, I could and would work in fields.

It would be a very short time because once the laws are enforced, we wouldn't have to deport 500,000 illegals a day, they would leave rather than be prosecuted! Additionally, there would be no more incentives for illegals to stay, period! When you build the fire under their feet, it takes a lot of courage and knowhow to walk on the hot coals without getting burned! If they weren't comfortable in their own country, building a fire under their feet here will ensure that they are much more uncomfortable here. Mass exodus! Bring it on! On and a real answer to your question in math terms -- 500,000 per day is 1/2 million. We have between 12 and 20 million illegals in the USA (some say 40 million) so that means it would take 24 to 40 days to accomplish the deportation. (If we have 40 million then it will take 80 days). With the mass exodus that would take place if the laws were enforced, the time could be cut substantially.
According to the maps and the news this morning, the Chicago area needs jobs -- we have a very high unemployment rate -- so I would argue that U.S. Citizens would be able to get their jobs back and that the companies will not go out of business! That has been proven over and over again as when raids are accomplished, there are 100 applicants who are legally entitled to work for every position vacated by an illegal immigrant.

Typo, you meant PER YEAR right?
Note many would self deport (leave on their own) as we now see in Oklahoma. Well 500000 a year, there's 12M, it would take 24 years ie 1 generation. I would like if it happens faster (10 years or less)
Note France's new pdt (Sarkozy) will expell 25000 to 30000 illegals per year, since there's 300000 it will take 10 years for complete 'cleanup'.

That would be quite an accomplishment. Being able to do that, at all, would mean that we had a handle on the problem.
