Stewart is currently 5th in points. He's gonna have to pull this cup of his ars if he actually wants it. Is there anything he could do to actually win this year?! I know there's always a slim possibility that he could win, but.... what would it take?

By the way, I have a sense of humor, but if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. lol

mlblue: me too. I don't want him to leave the Home Depot Team, but I don't like the idea of him in a Toyota either. He's said that he doesn't mind the Toyota. He likes "new experiences". Its just.... he'll have to learn a whole new car all over again. Its bad enough that his Chevy has been crap the last few races.

Possible? By the numbers, it's still possible. Likely? No. Gordon & Johnson are so far ahead at this point, that Tony'd have to win the last 3 events, while Jeff & Jimmie finish 30th or worse in all 3. Bowyer would have to finish about 20th or worse.
After Texas, drivers will start to be mathematically eliminated from the Chase. Unless Tony has a very strong run, & the top-3 screw up, he'll be one of them.
And actually, the spread is 190 points per race. You have to allow for one of the leaders not starting the remaining races.
Extraordinarily unlikely, but possible. Taking that into account, even Truex is mathematically still in it.

Tony has the knack for being a spoiler as he did in 2006 at the same time as he did not make the chase. As to can he win this 365 days my answer is convinced. With the first race contained in the chase this weekend i'd say the precise 5 have the superb probability of triumphing. bypass JOE GIBBS RACING

I'm a huge Tony Stewart fan, but absolutely not. He would need a miracle. He would need the 24 and the 48 to wreck in all of the last 3 races and I don't see that happening.

Is he mathematically eliminated? No. A driver can gain up to 161 points in one race, and he is only 332 points out. With three races left (at the time of this posting), the only driver out of the twelve who is mathematically eliminated is Martin Truex, Junior.
Realistically, though? Unfortunately, yes. Unless the Russian Mafia kidnaps Jeff, Jimmie, AND their pit crews or something like that, one of them are going to win the Championship. They would have to finish last or next to the next two races, AND Tony would need to win and lead the most laps in those two races, for him to get close.
Could it happen? Yes. And if it does, THEN we know who the Mafia had their money on. XD

Yeah, Snake has got a pretty smart goat......
It is possible, but highly unlikely. Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson would both have to have multiple bad finishes the last three races, and Tony would have to nearly win the remaining three. It's possible for Tony to win them, and it's possible for Jeff and Jimmie to both stumble. But it's not very likely that Tony will win them all with Jeff and Jimmie stumbling as well.

it is a very slim chance. Even with the #48 and #24 having problems, He would also need to win, beat Carl Edwards and Clint Bowyer each week. Tony is fifth. I doubt he will win. Tony will win next year, He wins in threes...2002...2005...2008? My pick is johnson, but I'd love to see Bowyer win it.

He is not mathematically eliminated yet. It would take a situation where Gordon and Johnson finished 40th or so the next 3 races and Stewart win them!!!!
