They literally tell kids at my school, 'OH YOU WON'T BE SENT TO IRAQ', but last year the few who did sign up were in Iraq within 3 months. Such Liars. So much for integrity of the military. So much for the best and brightest. Such liars.

well it's a tactic they use they need as many people as possible now thanks to bush. the actually teach recruiters in school how to talk them and their parents into it without including all that could happen. i agree they lie but not all military personnel are like that and not all are liars. i don't think all recruiters are like that but most have to be now a days otherwise no one would sign a contract. thry are just doing what they have to to get people although maybe it's not the right way.

The two year commitment is real. It is called two years plus training which is your basic + ait training. Now the bad part about that. The MOS selections suck. If I remember correctly they are cook, radio infantry man, truck driver, small vehicle mechanic and a few more. I did the 2 years + training program. Now as for going to Iraq and where you would be stationed they have no control over that at all. As someone who professes not to hate the military why would you go to a school that in itself is the very center of hatred for the military in Berkley? No recruiter in his right mind would tell you any of this want to know how I know? My best friend was a recruiter and I was in the Army and my recruited said none of these things. All recruiters use the same playbook from their training on being recruiters. You can not go home during training that is a blatant lie and no recruiter would tell an absolute lie like that with out reprimand. The Nat. guard and reserves "train" one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer but basic and ait are straight through with a break inbetween but no travel away from the town near post. Your "family in the military' can answer any of your questions. Good job of disparaging our military and enjoy life at Berkley. As for the person who says they get a commision that is not true. What they get is to continue being a recruiter. If they do not get their quotas they get sent back to normal duty which is much harder than the civilian like job of recruiting. Recruiters do not target the 'poor' because most poor people do no meet the requirements to be in the military. They do not want dumb people or people who have a problem taking orders and lack dicipline which most of the so called 'poor minorities' lack. Most of the military is made up of people from California, TX, New York and most of the South and are considered middle class to lowe middle class.

I would be offended at your statement, but I won't waste my breath for you. I will answer for the others reading this question though. I am currently a Marine, deployed twice to Iraq, was a recruiter from 2001-2004. Never once did I lie to anyone I ever put in. If someone asked me about going to Iraq or aghanistan, I would have said most certainly. I have never gotten paid extra for putting someone in. The army does have a program that rewards non recruiters an amound of money for referring someone to the recruiter if that person actually joins. I have kept in contact with almost every young man and woman I enlisted, none of them regret joining. Some are out, some have reenlisted. As a recruiter, ones reputation is a commodity. If people in your assigned area find that your are untrustworthy, you will not be successful as a recruiter. Its in our best interest to be honest. Who would want the enlistee to come home and tell all his friends that you lie? Not me, I want him to come home and say I am a straight up guy. We do have a recruiting mission, are taught sales skills, etc.... But to lie? Be misleading? NEVER!!! I agree, contact the recruiters command, and I guarantee that person will face the consequences of his actions. I have seen recruiters lie, and seen them kicked out of the service for lying. It is not the accepted practice. And being sent to Iraq in 3 months? You are full of ****..... The basic training and job schooling takes longer than that for even the shortest training. So that is not even remotely possible.

ok first of all, there are stupid people out there. as for the military not having integrity you are SO WRONG. these men and women fight for people like you everyday. obviously thoses kids who signed up cant expect NOT to go to Iraq are not the best and brightest students. the military is not the boy scouts, it's the real deal. I highly doubt that they were told they would not go to Iraq. There is a war going on right now, the military will put you where they need you. they do not train men and women to sit around and do nothing. Get over it, be proud that there are good people in this country who will fight for you.

ScumWads, spoken like a true civilian .....What do you expect, It's the freakin military. If you or your pals are naive enough to not think they could possibly be in harms way upon joining the military, just stick to fast food. Recruiters have no way of knowing if a prospective recruit will go to Iraq or not but I think that if you do join the military, there is that possibility. Why don't you just join the Global warming Corps or something and stick to your X-Box or whatever useless thing that you do.

Such a statement would be recruiter misconduct and the offending recruiter would be subject to disciplinary action.

If you have information about a recruiter making such a statement, write to the secretary of that service and report the person by name.

Heck, I'm calling you out. Name them here. Grade, name, service, date/time/location, exactly what was said, to whom, and who witnessed it. Bring it.

I cant believe you'd say that about anyone who is serving in the military. My step-father who had recruited me has served in two wars. He's an E-7 waiting for his E-8 and has never lied to anyone, me and my three friends I had referred to him. Its only certain ones. Some (like my stepfather) recruiters arent all about the money or the awards. Some just love their job and wont hold back the truth if asked. Others, do lie to fill their quota but in this day in age, anyone who thinks they have NO CHANCE at getting sent to war is STUPID and NAIVE. Everyone has a chance.

Wow... spoken like someone who hasn't actually DEALT with a recruiter, but is speaking third or fourth-hand.

Recruiters CAN'T lie... they will be punished if caught lying.

My recruiter (1985) was certainly EAGER to get me in... tried to push me into the Nuclear Power program when I wanted AIRCREW and aircrew ONLY. BUT, I was an adult and had enough COMMON SENSE to demand things written into the contract.

SO, if a recruit is FOOLISH enough to believe a SUGGESTION or INFERENCE that they won't ever serve in Combat... they are just plain ignorant.

Recruiting is actually some rather lousy duty... I refused it back in 1994 and took an extra sea-tour instead. And recruiters (NAVY at least) do NOT get paid "extra" for the more bodies they bring in.

They can't state where they will go or not go. It's illegal and they can be tried for it. They can, however, speak in a way that strongly suggests they will be sent to one place or another, or not be sent somewhere. So unless they actually stated those words you wrote and didn't simply make it appear that way without definitely saying so, then they legally did nothing wrong.

I suggest you listen more closely to what is being said, and actually read any document you will be signing before you sign it, and tell others to do the same thing.
