DON'T use a cleaning disc! They do more harm than good, the little brush can scratch the laser.
Instead get 4 or 5 cotton buds (Q-tips if you're American), then sellotape them together end to end. Dip one end into aftershave or vodka (something with lots of alcohol in), open the disc drawer then stick your extended cotton bud into the PS2. Look closely, you should see the lens of the disc reader, line up your cotton bud thingy with the disc reader and gently rub it. Wipe gently though.
Sounds complicated, but it's easier than you think.
If you can't see the lens of the laser when you look into the PS2, you might need to open the whole PS2 up. If you have to do this use a vacum cleaner with the small brush attachment and give the whole thing a good going over.
It's a lot of messing about, but it's worth it.

I have some experience with that. Don't use cleaning CDs (they can scratch the lens) and q-tips (you can misalign or/and damage the laser). Instead get a special spray for fragile electronics and lenses. There are two types, one is just pressurized air - good for dust and a little bit of dirt, another one is for really dirty lenses and electronic parts - a liquid one (don't worry, it won't shortcircuit or damage your system). Those sprays are on sale in any serious electronic parts store. Remember: disconnect the unit from electricity supply before!

Also, if you're hesitant about doing it yourself, I'm fairly certain that Gamestop or a store of that nature would offer services such as those...for a fee.
