Hello!

You ask good questions and I'll do what I can to answer them for you.

Apostolic, United and Oneness Pentecostals believe the Bible teaches there is one God without distinction of persons, the full divinity of Jesus Christ, the new birth which is repentance, water baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ, and receiving the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking in tongues.

The term "United Pentecostal" refers to a corporation, the formal name of which is the United Pentecostal Church International. There are many other corporations which teach essentially the same message described above. Examples are, the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ and the True Jesus Church.

The terms "Apostolic Pentecostal" and "Oneness Pentecostal" are generic labels which identify all who believe the basic message described above, regardless of organizational affiliation. There are numerous independent Apostolic fellowships and these labels are a shorthand way of identifying their theology.

"Wiccan Rider" is incorrect to assert all Apostolics believe in outward standards of modesty (as he/she describes them). There are many, MANY Oneness Pentecostals who look no different than anybody else. There are also many ministers who teach "standards of holiness" but do NOT require "2 inches above the ankle" or "sleeves no shorter than almost to elbow." There are numerous churches which teach modesty of dress that allow short sleeves, wedding rings and skirts at or just below the knee. I offer no commentary on this except to point out that Apostolics are as "multi-flavored" as Baskin Robbins.

Now, the term "Pentecostal" encompasses a far broader range of people who believe, across all denominational lines, that speaking in tongues is a Scripturally valid, current phenomenon -- especially those who've experienced it themselves.

Many describe themselves as "Charismatic" but most Charismatics I know and have met are comfortable with being called Pentecostal. Also, Oneness Pentecostals regularly call themselves Pentecostal, too.

Most Pentecostals/Charismatics are Trinitarian and while you can find Charismatics in most denominations (including charismatic Catholics), many of them form their own movements and/or churches. The largest Pentecostal denomination is the General Council of the Assemblies of God.

I hope this adequately answers your questions, and if you'd like to discuss it further, feel free to email me.

Best wishes,
Scalia

They had to break away and form a different branch for a reason. I will bet it is over doctrine and certain practices.. My thought is that offense, pride, rebellion and control are involved.

I have been a part of a few different sects in the Pentecostal world only to find they have one thing in common and that's a control issue and the fact they all think they are right and have the truth and if you don't sit with them you are damned.... Sad but true....

Apostolic is more imposing on the peoples behaviors and what they wear ..Some make their followers wear certain attire and only give men and women positions that they deem acceptable....This is derived from man made traditions and and doctrines.... We think of as being them free churches but in actuality I think they miss the mark in many cases...

I'm all for the teaching of the gifts like tongs , prophecy etc
but the abuse of them is prevalent in some of these places...

Those three believe the same, but Pentecostals could be Assembly of God, Pentecostal Holiness or Church of God-Cleveland and they all believe in the trinity.

The above mentioned are one and the same. They all believe Jesus is God and no trinity and women should never cut their hair never wear pants, always wear dresses and skirts 2 inches above the ankle sleeves no shorter than almost to elbow high neckline no make up or jewelry. The UPC Apostolic, Oneness Pentecostals teach they are the only ones going to heaven and all others are hell bound including the other tongue speakers.

Pentecostal is a broad term describing those charismatic faiths that believe in modern day miracles and tongue speaking is prevalent in these churches. It includes the above mentioned along with the assemblies of God, Holiness, church of God, and many so called non denominational churches.

The "United" and "Oneness" are the same group, and they reject the truth of the Trinity, so they are deep in heresy. They are an unsaved cult and should be avoided.

The "apostolic" group thinks they are the modern version of the first apostles. That too is a heresy.

Usually Pentecostals without the extra labels believe Biblical doctrine (although this you should check as well, because some of them teach the heresy of "losing salvation". It is impossible to lose our salvation, so they'd be very wrong on that point)

Pentecostals also believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit (prophecy, tongues, discernment, interpretation of tongues, healings, word of knowledge, just to name a few) are active today. They are correct about this.
