I had a car wreck that gave me a SERIOUS case of amnesia, the simple answer is yes, that's how memories come to us. At least that is how it how it worked for me. Someone would tell a story of something I had done, it would either come back to me, or it was gone forever, or I would visit a place I had been, same story.
