It is important to see the Neurologist as he can do nerve conduct studies. They need to know if you have lost any of the nerve function to your legs, bowel, bladder and private parts. If you have then they can operate. Likewise, the Neurologist can also recommend other pain treatments, rather than keep popping the pills. I am on Fentanly Patches are they are so much easier than popping pills. I am also on anti-inflammatory drugs, but the patch is excellent.

I have degenerative disc syndrome in my lower back on the same discs which causes sciatica and other problems. I was diagnosed at 25. I have been through a slew of the normal medications in the past few years, then other medicines, then injections- none of them helped- including the Lyrica and other neuro drugs they experimented with on me. Finally, I switched jobs, so I was on my feet less often, then I went to a chiropractor. The pain still comes, it is still horrible at times, nothing will take that away BUT the pain free days in between are GREAT!! I do have to take Ultram and Aleve or Ibuprofen from time to time, but my stomach and nervous system are relieved without them. I'd suggest you try that rather than the neuro drugs. I have had other affects due to those- the Lyrica made me feel like I was floating, the others made my heart race, there are so many problems that could occur.

The theory is that stopping the receptors in our brains will stop us from feeling the pain- it does NOT work, in the end you just feel high.
