how much is the reward and did i deserve it or is it given out of love and grace for someone who does not merit such gifts?

I don't think that this is just a question for Christians! I would return the dog whether there was a reward or not and if there was, I would turn it down. That is because it is the dog that needs the help and I would be completely heartbroken if I was in that position. It is about being a kind human who is humble and does not expect people to reward them for doing what they should have done anyway.

What if there is no reward and I'm choosing to return the dog because I know how I would feel if my dog were lost and the person who found him, kept him? What if I return the dog and refuse the reward? What do you think that says?

Only 'hope' actually answered your question. 'Sharon M' dodged it, referencing possibilities without actually answering. Pretty much what I expected.
