This is the real truth of the matter is a compilation of the following facts:

1)The Government controls and makes the Law.
2)Taxes feed the Government or Sustain it.
3)Stamps and First class prepaid envelopes are 100% tax. Therefor 100% sustainment for the Government.
4)The tax rate of a phone call is approx .5 - 3.0 cents, assuming it connects to the other end, not enough to intice the government for support.

Other reasons are the telemarketing method of advertising is slowly dying, compared to new forms of more readily available and less intrusive forms of advertising.

All this put together makes the Gov look good in standing up against the Telemarketers, when its really in thier best interest as well.

P.S. When it comes to new laws and anything governmental..... use this equasion:
GOV = Money. You will find the answer if you look close enough. Hell why you think we are in Iraq now?

Peace Out Bro!

Believe me I hate junk mail just as much as everyone else, but I have to be honest here. Telemarketers just dial numbers at random or from a sales marketing list they purchased from a company like Yahoo. Their purpose is to sell you something and make money. This differs from junk mail in many ways. The normal junk mail comes from a legitimate business with a product to sell. They print advertisements (On paper), and then mail them to addresses in the area. This costs the company money to both produce the ad's, and to mail the ads to people. The Post Office in turn receives a large amount of revenue from these so called junk mailers. This is what is known as free enterprise. I personally would rather see the companies save the money and reduce prices on their products, but it doesn't work that way. As for telemarketers. They are nothing more then sweat shops making money for nothing and annoying people.

Well, telemarketing isn't ended, it's just got more restrictions on it now. And junk mail is seen as less intrusive for some reason.

But you can reduce the amount of junk mail you receive, at least. There are a couple generic lists that you want to be on:
https://www.optoutprescreen.com/
https://www.dmachoice.org/MPS/

Anything that comes with your address actually written on it, is either covered by one of the above lists, or you need to contact the sender specifically (there's generally a customer service number you can find in the mailpiece or on the company's web site) and ask them to stop mailing you. You pretty much need to contact every organization you know or that knows about you and tell them to not send you mail and to not sell or rent your name to others.

If it's just addressed "Postal Customer" or "Resident" and doesn't actually include your address, they paid the Post Office to deliver to every address on the route that you're on, so even if you contact the company sending it they can't take you off the list.

If a mailer won't stop, fill out Form 1500 and attach it to the mail and bring it to a Post Office or mail it to the address on the form. It's designed for offensive material, and the courts have decided that *you* get to pick what's offensive. I find a lot of my junk mail to be offensive. The form is available at larger post offices and at http://www.usps.gov/.

Any mail you get in the meantime, feel free to simply not accept the junk mail. Mark it "Refused" and give it back to the Postal Service. See http://www.refuseyourmail.info/ for more information.

There are some online subscription services that try to automate this process somewhat and act as your agent in getting off of the lists that you want to get off of. But I haven't tried any, so I am hesitent to recommend any.

Wouldn't that be nice? I never even look at the junk mail. IT just goes right in the recycle bin.

Oh yes. Please plaeasepleaseplease end junk mail. And while you are at it, get rid of E-mail spam too. Please!

But as has been pointed out, it would be limiting freedom, which is bad.

No junkmail signs all round. In the UK you can also ask the post ofice to stop putting some of it through your door.

Power to the people.

Because there is something called "freedom to do business"

Part of it is to be able to reach potential customers
