First off, let me say that I'm NOT going to the doctor unless this persists for another week or so because there's no way I'm having ANYTHING shoved up my *** unnecessarily. I'm a 16 y/o female and I just had my wisdom teeth removed about 8 or 9 days ago. I've NEVER had anything but the normal poop, and now I have had maroon colored poop twice within the last week (it was 2 poops in a row, but there was a gap of like a day or two where I didn't poop at all... this is TOTALLY NORMAL for me, especially since I haven't really eaten anything substantial in over a week).

I was thinking that it may be from A) all of the blood I swallowed for a few days, B) the chocolate Atkins drinks I was drinking (like 4 of 'em per day), or maybe C) chocolate and strawberry ice cream???

It's not a bright red and it is a consistent color all the way through (not like just red on the outside)... What could it be? My meds are: allegra-d, augmentin, protonix, symbicort, and motrin (taken consistently

****continued****

I have been taking the motrin consistently every 6 hours since the surgery, but I've laid off the last few days. Could that have caused an ulcer where I already have the acid reflux????

HELP ME! I"M SO WORRIED!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't worry at this point. It's most likely the blood you've swallowed from your surgery...or at worst...a hemorrhoid. I would watch it for a week and I bet it clears up. If it doesn't, go see your doc.

I'm throwing the hemmorhoid theory out there because you go a couple days without pooing. That is a sign of constipation. I'd up your water and fiber intake.

I really would ask your doctor about this. It could just be a hemorrhoid (maroon color indicating fresh blood), or it could be something else. Talking to your doctor would be the safest bet. If your stool turns very dark, inform your doctor immediately, because that could be a sign of internal bleeding.

And yes, eat more fiber--salads or two slices of whole-wheat bread daily. A half-cup of Cheerios or bran cereal also works to increase your fiber intake, which will make your bowel movements more regular.

Maroon-colored stools are generally not something to worry about unless it becomes chronic. The maroon color may or may not be from blood. If it is from blood, it is coming from the lower intestinal tract where piles and hemorrhoids commonly cause small amounts of bleeding. Motrin can cause rectal bleeding.
