Where do we get this idea of mortal and veneal sins,
surely all sins carry the same price,
Adam ate a fruit and bougfht sin and death onto the world
How come his punishment and the resulting curse on all of mankind was far greater for eating a piece of fruit then it was for Cain who killed his own brother
lets weigh it up
eating a bit of fruit- vs murder
surely by your catholci reckoning the murderer is the more guiltier and should spend further time in purgatory
if that's the case why did cain not recieve a much harasher punishment then that which adam incured...the destruction of paradise?
isn't it written
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19
which of the 10 commandments is the smallest?
the 1st,
the second?
or do they all carry the same penalty?

The 613 Commandments of Judaism are administered much the same as jurisprudence of today. Does American law provide for the death sentence for all murderers regardless of intent or pre-meditation? Neither does Jewish law. The Bible is inspired by God, or at least written by brilliant people. Interpretation of the Law is found in the Talmud, which was discarded by Christians so all they know of the Law is "an eye for an eye." I don't claim to understand the "new" testament, never having read it. Why do Christians claim to understand Judaism when many (most?) don't even know that the Talmud exists? Those who do know that exists are forbidden from reading it!!!

Depends what you call a sin really. Its different for different people.
What is a punishment? and what is a judgement? Different people have different beliefs and for someone it is a sin and for others they would say 'thats life'.
Was Adam just doing something because he was only human and wanted to experience that experience and that as we are told it, human beings are interpreting what they want to believe.
For example some people would say chocolate is a sin and then others would say swearing is. Yet most human beings would probably break the 10 commandents every day and then they would not go out in the world
I do not follow the bible and I am not religious but it depends really on what your beliefs are, what your desires are and what makes you tick.
Its also what you are brought up on and what conditioning is passed down to you via your parents, schooling etc.
Really loved your question, as it has got me thinking. Blessed Be X

First, I am no fan of Catholic theology.
That said, you have made a few mistakes here.
1. Adam's sin was not a matter of eating the fruit. The sin was in deciding to eat the fruit. Adam and Eve chose to not believe God. Their sin was one of faithlessness in God; the same sin Satan committed, and it is the most serious of sins.
2. Your citation of Mat. 5:19 (you left out the 5). It says, "these" commandments, and not "the" commandments. He is talking about the commandments he proceeds to give from that point forward.

relies upon what you call a sin extremely. Its distinctive for various human beings. what's a punishment? and what's a judgement? distinctive human beings have distinctive ideals and for somebody it extremely is a sin and for others they might say 'thats existence'. became Adam only doing some thing because of the fact he became in common terms human and wanted to adventure that have and that as we are instructed it, human beings are analyzing what they % to have faith. case in point some human beings would say chocolate is a sin and then others would say swearing is. yet maximum human beings would in all possibility wreck the ten commandents on a daily basis and then they does no longer pass out contained in the worldwide i do no longer persist with the bible and that i'm no longer non secular regardless of if it relies upon extremely on what your ideals are, what your desires are and what makes you tick. Its additionally what you're pronounced on and what conditioning is exceeded right down to you by using ability of your mum and dad, education and so on. extremely enjoyed your question, because it has have been given me questioning. anyone who has read the bible quickly understands that all sins do not have the same penalty. Unfortunately, it seems that far too many christians (and anti-religion folks) only read Genesis 1, the ten commandments and leviticus 17 of all the five books of moses. If one took the time and effort to read and understand the rest, these stupid ideas would go the way of the dodo.

You are right! sin is sin and all carry the same penalty from God, Romans 6:23, For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Our sins seperate us from God, Of course here on earth different sins bring on different consequences but the end result is death and etenity with the devil unless we become born again as Jesus said in John 3:3

Sin is disobedience to God; that's what Adam did and that's what Cain did. It's something we've all done and the punishment is everlasting hell.

thwe sins are all equal, but if we cannot truly know what terms like good and bad mean, then this question has no point...and we cannot know what god is anyway as he is wholly simple and cannot be compared to anything that exists in contemplation
