I really want to believe but I just can't. I'm trying but I don't know how. I follow the teachings of the bible. It seems to me that most christians have that defining point in their life that made them realize what they were doing was wrong and then truely accept Jesus so that they can be forgiven for there sins. The problem is I don't. I've been goody goody my whole life. I not trying to sound all high and mighty but I just don't think I have any sins to be forgiven for beside the ones I inherited when I was born because of adam and eve. And when i tried to ask for forgiveness for those I don't know how to ask for forgiven for sin I don't really understand how I recieved them.

The first thing that someone should be considering is whether the idea of sin is actually real.

If God is supposed to be perfect how could She have made anything or anyone that wasn't perfect.
Think about it. The idea of sin assumes certain things about God that seem highly unlikely.

First it assumes a God who is too incompetent to organize a simple educational field excursion and figure out a way to get all of the students home safely.

How likely is this that God would not be smart enough to come up with a plan for our salvation that is going to work 100 percent of the time?

It also assumes that God must have created us imperfect if we are sinners.

One might assume that God would be able to create someone perfect each and every time if he chose to. Assuming God is capable of this, then it follows logically that we must be perfect creations if we are actually creations of this perfect God.

Unless of course you are saying that God chose to create us imperfect.

If God created us imperfect then anything that may go wrong is Gods fault, not ours. This seems a bit illogical at best so I think that we need to assume that What God creates would have to be perfect.

If this is the case and Gods creations are perfect, then nothing that we can do could change what God created perfect and make it imperfect unless we think that we are more powerful than God is.

How likely is it that we the creation could be more powerful than the creator. I personally find this idea somewhat amusing, and a bit absurd.

Religion tells us that God is perfect. If this is true then it could hardly be logically for Gods creations to be considered to be anything less than perfect.

If this is the case and we are perfect creations of a perfect God then Nothing that we can ever do could possibly change this perfection that God willed, unless we were so powerful that our choices could override and change the will of God.

How likely is that????

Think about it.

For many years I wondered why I was not devout about Christianity. I was raised Catholic and attended a Catholic school, but somehow it just did not take. I cannot profess like you that I am or have been a "goody goody".

Finally, and after too many years it has become apparent to me that Christianity and other hearsay or revealed religions are merely mythology. Adam and Eve didn't give you any original sin. That is a ridiculous guilt trip. The whole notion of sin is a contrived thing also. Do you really think that Moses came down from the mountain with the word of God in the form of the Ten Commandments? And do you really believe that the Bible is the word of God? It would not appear that God speaks in human tongues. What need is there for God to speak in human tongues? Those Ten Commandments and the Bible are the words of men. Do we have any real proof that Jesus Christ existed? What kind of DNA would one suspect that Jesus Christ had? Why are there no miracles today like the ones purported in the Bible?

Make up your own mind. I found Deism to be the religion that is right for me.

You are actually talking about a couple of things here. Let me first talk about faith. Faith is defined in Hebrews 11:1. We however are not saved by faith alone. James 2:14-26 say a lot about this, but notice that faith is perfected by our works. Perfect faith is matching our belief with our works.
The second part is forgiveness of sins. Romans 3:23 says that we all have sin. We received them when we fell to temptation James 1:13-16. We are saved by the grace of God. In other words, even though we do not deserve it. God died for us and gave us the gift of eternal life. It was not because we were righteous or anything that we did. Though Jesus we have the gift of life, but we must accept this in order to be forgiven of our sins. Look at Acts 2:37-38, Acts 22:16, Romans 6: 3-11, Galatians 3:27, and 1 Peter 3:20-21.
Note: There are people who say that baptism is a work and that I have contradicted myself. I assure you, it is not a work that we do, but baptism is a work of God, Colossians 2:12. Notice I'm using scripture to back up what I say, if you have any more questions feel free to email me.

Why would you want to get "faith"in a book that you aren't able to reconcile with common sense and ethics already? If you are after truth, look for it.People think they must follow this book or that book. That is a distraction from the search for truth.A god of truth doesn't appear in a highly disputed book, full of contradictions and time lines we know not to be true.If you wish to find god,it is a journey you alone will take.Find what we DO know, explore science and philosophy, come to a realistic conclusion of the question "Is there a god?"If you conclude "yes" then draw on the truth, whatever it may be.A real god would approve.Science alone will never answer the "why"as to the existence of the universe. It too,has limitations, and there, philosophy comes into play. "why are we here?""What is life?'Are questions science cannot, and doesn't attempt to answer. We know this much about the nature of a god, should one exist. We know the universe is 14 billion or so years old,we know man came to be through evolution. We know that this god doesn't appear to interfere in the natural workings of the universe. If you want GOD,not a particular god, such as the various Christian and Muslim versions prevalent today, but GOD.THE God,the one that can possibly exist, then embrace learning, embrace truth. If a god exists, that MUST be its nature, truth.Don't substitute truth for an old saying, and never stop seeking

You choose faith. It is a conscious decision you make. You accept the Lord and follow his example. By saying you don't have any sin shows pride and pride is a sin. You ask forgivness by just admiting you are a sinner. Just talk to God like you would talk to me. It is that simple.

All Have Sinned and Fall Short of the Glory of God
Romans 3:23

So you're saying that you're perfect? You never tell a lie, even a little white lie? You never look at someone of the opposite sex with lust? You never get angry or impatient with people? You never feel selfish, or judgmental, or arrogant? You always put everyone else first without complaint? You never listen to or repeat gossip? Honestly, just to be human is to sin. The story of Adam and Eve is the story of how the human mind and psyche is so selfish and prideful. Perhaps you don't understand what sin is. Sin is anything that is displeasing to God. Little ones or big ones, God sees them as all the same.

First of all, Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, Romans 10:17. Read your Bible and Pray everyday. Trust in the Lord for every step you take and your faith will grow. Stand up for him when you feel lead to. And by the way did you know that Jesus even said that to call no one Good but the Father, none of us are good in Gods eyes, thats why Jesus came to wash away our sins by his death on the Cross at Calvery, The Bibles in Romans 3:10 and verse 23 that we are all sinners. You and me, did you know even a lack of faith is sin, worring about something is a sin. Now if you are that good then my hat is off to you but according to the Bible all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God, now, Have you ever ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart and save you? Have you been Born Again spiritually? Do you feel a real joy in your heart for Jesus? If not and you would like to just pray this prayer believing by faith in Jesus, just Pray Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

You are working from a common mistaken premise.

Repentance is not turning from sin and asking to be forgiven of sin. To repent is to turn to God. In Acts, the Jewish Christians were surprised when Gentiles started receiving the Holy Spirit, as it was believed they could not turn to God without undergoing circumcision and made to keep the law. Their declaration was that God had granted unto the Gentiles repentance unto life.

Faith is a choice. It is a choice to believe God and believe that He will perform that which he has promised to do. Faith is about being faithful to God.

Faith is about letting the Holy Spirit be your guide, and not a set of rules as found in the old testament/covenant.

I invite you to visit my website... it is not very professional but it might give you some idea about how to proceed... I do not have a page specificaly on Faith but if you have questions about the basics of The Faith feel free to contact me from the site. http://www.mikesfaith.com

sin is any act that is against The Word and Will of God for mankind... I have never met a mortal who has not sinned... all have...and all will... that is the human condition.

if you do not know God's Will for mankind... and for you... you do need to do some reading... I will be glad to help with what I can... the faith / forgiving stuff is a hard one for most to really come to grips with... you are not alone in this...

You do not give your age but I suspect you are some younger than me... you will find my testimony link on the statement page of the site... that will tell you how I came to God... I do not claim I "know it all" ... I do not.. but I do know my Salvation is assured... if I can help I will...

Faith, religion and other superstitions require an inner part of the human mind that can accept any of these, without questioning or requirement of proof.
Usually people are educated to accept some form of religion or superstition when they are young, and have little ability to criticize.
some others become faithful or religious as adults, but these are usually people who were a little out of contact before they become religious.
You should try to asses whether you fit any of these descriptions. If you do you could ask for guidance, else, just forget it.
