I refuse to have more than one self image. I spent too many years trying to live up to the expectations of others.
I had my "business" look and my "me" look. I decided that I just wanted to be me all of the time. I have no regrets whatsoever. I have 27 tattoos and I show as many whenever possible. I have a fantastic job and employer that lets me be me.
I refuse to be stereotyped or put down because I have body art.
It saddens me when I see the questions about people that want tattoos but want to hide them. If the inked continue to have this mentality, then we never will be fully accepted.
I hide my ink for nobody and for no reason.

I have two tattoos that are on my shoulder blades. If I wear spaghetti straps or muscle shirts, they are very visible, but if I wear a professional looking top, they are well hidden. Like one poster said, if you are not 100 % set on this, then don't get it. I work two jobs where I have coworkers with visible tats and the one with current workers with visible tats doesn't make a big deal about it. The other doesn't either. If you want a starting point, try finding your companies tattoo policies.

For me tattoos and body mod is a life style. You only live once as far as I know so i'm not going to let anything get in the way of the choices i make about my own body. I have both arms sleeved, a huge back piece, and a chest piece.
And I have a respectable career. When I first go my job i did my best to hide my tattoos until i proved myself to be a reliable and hardworking employee and let them get to know me for the person that i am and not for what's on my skin. Over time i exposed my tattoos and they were a lot cooler about it and in fact interested and intrigued.

There are more people than ever getting tattoos, so employers would have a hard task finding anyone without at least one.My husband and I both have tattoos. He's doing really well with his job as a maintenance engineer at local banks, in fact he's been promoted as a boss.
If people have problems with this very old method of body art, then they need to move with the times and look at the person not the ink.
Rock on Vera!!! She's one cool lady.;o)

If you want them, get them. I started getting tattoos on my arms and when approached about it at work, decided this wasn't really the job for me anyway. Now I'm in a job where they don't care if they are visible and it fits my lifestyle. You should know what you are doing with your life, but also, if they are not on your neck or face, you can always where a long sleeve shirt and pants if neccessary. It's your body, your decision.

In all honesty, I'd never consider getting a tattoo in a place where normal clothing would be unable to cover it.
The only tattoo I currently have is on my right forearm, a long sleeved shirt will easily cover it.
The only places I'd say should be strictly off limits, from a professionalism point of view, would be the hands, below the wrist, and anyplace above the neckline of most of your clothing (that is a bigger problem for ladies than for men), and nothing on the face or neck.
I'd suggest you put your next tattoo on your upper arm. That way, it can easily be concealed by most sleeve lengths, or exposed by a sleeveless top, at your choice.

I have visible tattoos. The thing that finally made me decide to get them is the fact that any visible tattoo can be hidden. Whether you wear long sleeves, pants, or stage makeup, any tattoo can be hidden.
I have a tiny tattoo on my temple and I have my forearm tattooed. When it's not appropriate to show them, I wear Color Tration to cover the one on my temple and I wear long sleeves. No one even knows I have tattoos unless I want them to know.

It depends on what you want to do with your life, career wise. If you feel that you will always be in an industry where tattoos aren't accepted, then i would seriously think about it. But i know for myself, the career path i want to take, tattoos aren't really looked down upon. I also really agree with your boyfriend.
Good luck with it!

Well, you should start out with a small visible tattoo unless you want everyone you look at you during your job.

I just wouldn't bother getting them in places where it might affect getting a job. People who are hiring generally stereotype based on appearance. Is a tattoo that important? You've obviously decided you don't mind the fact that they will fade and migrate over time, but having people judge you based on them is something else entirely. Maybe talk to your current boss about it and get his/her perspective.
