Have the fiancee', dress ideas, and wedding site. Now I need help thinking of a fun reception venue/decor ideas. No 50's diners, no fun drive-ins, all the decor I find is cheesy and cheap. We want more of the retro/rockabilly/50's prom and sexy/sweet appeal. Too much to ask?

Salt Lake City may be pretty limited but there HAVE to be options. Any and all ideas welcome and appreciated!

you can create the desired ambiance in almost any reception hall or outdoor venue.
try a black and white checkerboard dance floor rather than the traditional parquet.
play the appropriate music- even hire a 50's inspired band and a DJ w/ a 50's sensability about him. Have your vendors dress in 50's attire.
Serve retro-inspired dishes and set up a "soda fountain" at a bar where guests can order rootbeer floats or malts.
Maybe think about a non-traditional 1st dance done with your entire bridal party to a song from Grease.
Ea. table could be named after a band/group or movie from the 50's.
I hope these ideas get you thinking!
Bests :D

50's Prom
Wedding Theme

Favors: Give female guests wrist corsages and male guests boutonnieres.
They could even be used as place card holders.

Use mini satin photo albums as place card holders.

Set up a "Photo Area" so guests can fill up there photo albums!

Decorations: Here's a perfect time to use tissue paper and crepe paper! Although these are unconventional
wedding decor items it works well with this theme. Here are a few ideas from Martha Stewart to inspire you!

Tissue Paper Flowers - Create these tissue paper flowers to create beautiful low cost centerpieces.

Paper Pew Wreaths - Tied your theme into the ceremony with these tissue paper wreaths.

Alternative Bouquet - Are you crafty and want an alternative to a traditional flower bouquet?
Try this one made out of tissue paper flowers.

Pom Poms and Lanterns - Decorate ceilings with either one of these ideas.

Reception Ideas: Set up a "Punch Bar" for guests. Create Alcoholic and Non-alcoholic punches for guest to
partake. You can even create your own "Signature Punch" for the occasion.

My original link is below as well as all of the decor ideas.

Good Luck and Congratulations!

Hi and congratulations!

I just LOVE the 50's myself. Are you doing a whole 50's vintage wedding with vintage clothing? That would be fun!

Anyway, think "Happy Days" (the TV Show). Are you even old enough that you watched that show? Now that I think of it, probably not. Anyway.....here are my ideas:

When I think of 50's, you must think of malt shops, etc. They were always playing music on the juke box. Music, that is, that were 45 records!

You can buy 45 records either at an antique store (cheap) or online. Here is a site:

My idea would be to get 45 records and put them in stands somehow. I can only think of putting them in clear acrylic place card holders. Here are some:

Another idea would be to go on Ebay and buy "vintage cake top holders" and display those on your tables as centerpieces.

Good luck!

Are there any classic car museums in your area? They might rent space for events. I know AACA in Hershey, PA does.
