They are cheap labour. The Government is lulling people in to a false sense of security with them. They have no powers and for what they cost I would sooner see proper Police Officers patrolling our streets.

? "Community policing", here, is a way of doing the job. A certain style of going about doing the job of policing a community. The key to it is communication. The officer being active within a community and talking with the people. Getting the people to know him, and him getting to know the people. In this way, he can better provide his services to these people and they help him better through better communications and support. Instead of the alternative... Waiting for things to happen.

Do you understand what Community Policing is? I think you are confusing Community Policing with Citizens on Patrol.

Community Policing is where Law Enforcement, City Government, Business’, Residents, and Citizens come together to recognize, identify, and report criminal activity and community problems. With everyone mutually working together, it is easier to formulate a course of action to deal with criminal activity and community concerns.

At the Police Department I currently work for, Patrol Officers are assigned to particular zone of the City. The Patrol Officer is rarely transferred to another zone. This helps in Community Policing as well. Patrol Officers get to know the Citizens in the zone they are assigned to and this helps them to form a relationship. Once this relationship if formed between the Citizens and the Patrol Officer, communication will flow more easily allowing problems to be addressed and a trust formed.

Citizens on Patrol are locol residents who take time out of their life to ensure a better quality of life for the community. They patrol around and help the community by reporting to Law Enforcement on crime problemed areas and help citizens with minor problems so that Law Enforcement can be free to handle the major issues.

Are you having a small respect problem? Bet you would be mad as hell if your house or vehicle got vandalized and the "community police" said "we turned our heads because this guy doesn't like us". They are helping YOU. As long as they are not harrassing you or breaking the law, accept what they do and hope you don't get in a wreck while not wearing your seatbelt during your "making a statement" periods.

The police Community Support Officers
They are there to gather intelligence, deal with lo level community issues and assist communications in various police jobs.

But regardless what you say about them...
They didnt just stand by like average joe, and criticise other people. they joined up and decided that they will do something to make a difference.

I couldnt do the job, i lovebeing a cop, and in many ways they have a harder job than me.

I wouldnt do it... but i respect them as they still joined up and are willing to do something to change things

classic Policing is using round searching for crime. community Policing is getting out contained in the community and chatting with human beings. Getting the community in contact. 2. Patrolman - street cop Detective - really good field yet similar rank as street cop in a lot of cases Corporal - one step above a street cop Sergeant - One step above corporal, 2 above the needed cop Lieutenant - etc.. Captain - etc.. in a lot of cases Sergeants and decrease than are on the streets, imposing the crimes. Lt's and above are in a lot of cases administration. This score would not bypass for all departments. If the patrolman has a subject matter, he's taking it to the Corporal who takes it to the sgt....etc..

They are policing on the cheap! they only have the power to detain you for 15 mins until a proper bobby comes along to sort them out. They can issue certain fixed penalty notices.

Beware as the old saying goes you only get what you pay for! look at the other month 2 of them alledgedly wouldn't get into a lake to save a drowning 10 yr old cos they hadn't alledgedly been trained, nope it took a proper bobby to arrive and dive in!!!!

Oh well only 8 years to go and i'm out of there!!!!

communty police provide a high visual presence in towns and neighbourhoods which give people a good sense of security ....especially now you dont see pc,s walking the streets ...because these officers are community based they pick up on local area problems and are available to talk to residents un like normal officers........there powers are limited but they can request a p.c whenever needed.

Community policing, as in neighborhood watch? I think it is an effective way to let people know they are watching. Albeit a dangerous thing, when thugs know other people are watching, they will be more likely to do their business in another neighborhood.

They are a waste of time and money which would be better spent on full time Police Officers.
