Jesus was crucified during the weekend of Passover. He was killed before the night of Passover, and supposedly rose three days later.
Remember the last supper? That was a Passover dinner.
Hmm...mzJakes, I thought the soldiers killed the crucified three right before sundown to make sure no murders were committed by the government during Passover, so as not to start any uprisings.

Easter was instituted BECAUSE of when Christ was crucified.
He went to the cross the day before Passover, the major Jewish festival, which was dated by ascertaining the the first full moon after the Spring Equinox. He rose the day following the Sabbath after Passover, the first day of the week, Sunday.
When the date was fixed it was decided to keep the Jewish reckoning so that Easter Sunday continues to fall on the first Sunday AFTER the first full moon after the Spring Equinox. And the Friday before is Good Friday, the day Christ died.
And no, very little was appropriated from the Roman goddess Eastre, other than a version of her name. EVERY society which practices agriculture of any kind has a spring festival. EVERY one. And over the centuries Holy Mother Church has taken the best of each practice and amalgamated it with much harmless joy for all, especially the children. Or would you rather not spend any money on Easter candy and new clothes? Easter bunny a threat to you, is he?

He died on the cross just before the beginning of the Passover feast which goes by moon stages. Easter is the name given to that time by "Christians". The ressurection of Jesus occured on the third day, or Sunday. That is how Easter is determined. By the Passover Feast. That is why the date changes every year, our calendar is different than the Jewish calendar.

First of all, Jesus was crucified on the Passover eve and before the Sabbath and thus a solemn feast day. Secondly , Christians believe that the Resurrection of Jesus is the new Passover because as the Jewish people were passed over by the angel of death so Jesus passed over from death to life in the Resurrection, our new Passover , the new lamb whose legs were not broken at his death, and rose on the 3rd day.
Jesus is our Passover, our Paschal Sacrifice

The pagan festivals of Ashteroth coincided with Passover that year. The Jewish calendar is based upon a lunar timetable.
Jesus died in Jerusalem that weekend because He was there for the Passover celebration.

Just to correct Yahweh's Toaster above, he was killed on the first day of Passover (not the day before)...the Passover meal is eaten on the first night and night precedes day on the Jewish Calendar.
The term 'easter' comes from the greek meaning 'passover'

Nowhere. Easter is an old pagan festival connected to the phases of the moon which is why the date is different each year

Where is it said that the the original Thanksgiving dinner occurred on the Fourth Thursday in November?
Should an adopted child who doesn't know his real birthday, never have a birthday party?
Does it take anything away from the celebration if you do not know the exact day in history that the original event took place?
