i'm looking for some cheap or free microsoft word or excel. i don't care if it's from 2003. i just like using it better then notepad or wordpad.

There is also OpenOffice. Its a free Office Suite in the opensource community. It is a very mature product.

The current basic edition of Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote is completely free at Office.com

You can download a free trial version from Microsoft. When the trial is up, you need to buy the product. It worked for me and I set aside money to buy Office 2007 and got a rebate, so it cost me about 110.00 and works great, has all the programs I need.
