Why do Christians have this intense need to prove that they are right and everyone else is wrong? I know what I believe, but I don't need to ask everyone around me to agree with me in order to be comfortable with my beliefs.

Just a couple of recent examples:

The aspect I think is so funny is that they try to use biblical examples of why I'm living wrong, and tell me that I'm going to hell... when all of that means nothing to me. I don't even belive in hell, not one, tiny bit. I don't need to be saved!

Because once they realize one thing is wrong the house of cards will start to fall and they will realize they have based their life on a work of fiction. I think they do it more to convince themselves than for anyone else.

Why do some Christian denominations interpret John 3 wrong?

Any real Christian does not feel that they have to prove anything. The way we chose to live our life and the fact that we believe everything in the Bible to be the only Truth Word of God is the only proof we need. We are suppose to set the example for the way to Salvation for others, sadly enough we fall short of this. We can talk about it all we want, but until an individual has an encounter with the Holy Spirit themselves they will never have a real understanding of Salvation. But as Christians we will continue as clumsily as it may be, to spread the Word of God to all the lost in hopes that lives will be changed and souls saved as a result.

Most people, confronted by the random and unpredictable nature of the universe, are driven to believe in some "absolute" or another, just to lessen the anxiety created by unresolvable questions.

Erm, excuse me, but if a Christian can convince another person that he is right - ie. speaking the truth - there's a good chance that they'll get saved - ie. they'll listen to you and then maybe you'll win them for Christ. We're just doing what our Lord told us to do.

Actually, what we do is just present to the world the words and the message of the God who we follow, who we just happen to believe WAS right.

There's a lot riding on this - eternity in fact. You don't have to believe this, but it cost the Lord a lot to make this offer to you.

They believe the world was created by an invisible, imaginary superbeing neatly split into three parts, one of which got nailed to a tree, one of which sets your head on fire and one of which desribes hiself as jealous. The one that got nailed to a tree was born by magic.

Now either they are right (which would be bizarre) or they are clinically insane.

They are just eager to cling onto a folorn notion that they are sane.

I don't even have to read the links to know what you're talking about. It's as if they have the elementary complex.
That's when you have to be first in line, even when everyone arrives at the sameplace at the same time.
They have to die first to prove a point or something I guess.

Don't be silly. It's not just Christians who feel the need to always be right. And all Christians don't feel the need to prove anything to anybody. I'm comfortable with my own beliefs and I don't need to have others concur.

I could pull up as many questions from a small group of Athiests that need to be "right".

It's fairly obvious, isn't it? In order for them to actually believe that they're being watched over by a benevolent god who will grant them eternal life, they HAVE to be right and everyone else HAS to be wrong.
