You are right! everyone can and have the right to choose what they want and not want.
Likewise when u make a selection , the other party might also be considering whether you are worthy to be a friend?
Yes, I do agreed with you that everyone do need make an effort to make friends.
To some it maybe easy and it maybe be tough to others , all this depends on "Personality".
But bear in mind, no one is a Born speaker.
New Friends don't come knocking at your door !unless they are saleman
therefore my suggestion is be "Observant",look around, sit in open cafe, lounges, pub watch people & see how your friends start a conversation, canvass their friends. pick up gd tricks. If unsure, what to say, don't speak, just smile. Trust me,not everyone appreciate "Chatterboxes"!
However, I disagreed the point that you've mentioned that certain disabilitly person find it very hard to "connect".
That depends if that someone wanted to open his/her heart to the outside world or prefer to hide in their own "protective shell" for fear of getting hurt.
Remember "No pain No gain"
This is the only way we learn to be stronger. When we rest is because we are prepare for a better tommorrow !
.
If your friend wanted to introduce someone to u and he/she wanted shake hands with you, no matter how they look , I believed most people will automatically shake hands with them. What do you think? is it that hard to shake that hand!

Well, if you dont want to be with people and you want to be alone, there is nothing wrong with that. Unless you really do want to be with people.
I think even if someone has a disability or is disfigured, they should try to make friends. There are cruel people out there, but there are also people who are kind and open minded.
I personally wouldnt mind making friends with a disabled or disfigured person.
I actually had a friend like that, but she moved. She was nice. And i know what its like to not be able to connect with people. =)

I hear what you are saying but I don't know if I agree.
It's possibly true in most circumstances? Some people are natural loners. Just because a person is alone doesn't mean that they are lonely. On the other hand, if the person has a disability, it may be harder for them to reach out. I would say if a person is poor then it would be harder for them to reach out or if they are shy. Some people have been really hurt by people and it may be more difficult for them to reach out.

I don't think that any one chooses to be lonely, yes some people do find it hard to make friends and connect with other people, there is a lot of lonely people out there, who would love to to have some one for a friend, or just to go out and have a drink with.

one may choose to be alone if they have had a bad experience with the opposite sex, maybe on several occasions and comes to the conclusion they are better off alone, but just cos someone may have a disability doesn't mean they can't find a partner right for them.
