Red wine is preferrably left at room temp. while you should chill white, blush, or desert wines for at least a few hours before drinking.

Red wine should be served at cellar temperature, actually, or just a bit cooler than normal room temperature (unless said room is a cellar). Even this can depend on the wine, like cheap plonk like yellow tail might as well be chilled, while fine aged reds from Bordeaux or Burgundy should be opened and decanted at cellar temperature and allowed to warm slowly to room temperature.

Most whites are better slightly chilled. Again, depends a little on the wine. Cheap plonk best served chilled to 40 F, while fine wines are better a bit warmer, I like to pop them in the fridge for an hour or so before serving.

Contrary to popular belief room temp is not 72. Room temprature in Texas in the middle of july is not the same thing as room temp in alaska in december.

For long term storage, i keep all my wines in wine fridge set to 54 degres. Or in a dark cool closet in my house away from heat and light.

If I am serving red, I take it out of the fridge, about 20 min prior to consuming, open the bottle and let it warm up to high 50s to low 60s.

If I am serving white wine, and it has been stored either in the closet or the wine fridge, I stick it in my food refrigerator earlier in the day, couple hours, let it chill down to 35. Then again, 20 mins prior to serving, take it out of fridge and open. and let it warm up to the40s. Most people serve whites way too cold. You can't taste all the flavor and aroma of a wine when it is too cold.

see attached chart for more info.

I depends on the type and color of the wine. Whites are generally prefered chilled, however a really good Brut Champagne should be served at room temperature.

Red wines are gererally served room temperature, unless it is a sweet dessert wine, or Sangria, which is served chilled with fruit.

Bottom line is if you prefer a certain wine contrary to how it's usually served, enjoy it however it tastes best to you!

The general rule is: red - room temperature ; white - chilled. However, the 'rules' of how, when and with what you drink wine are starting to bend a great deal.

White, blush, and other non-reds are suaually chilled before serving.

Reds are served at room temp. but you must understand what is meant by room temp.. usually 65 deg Fahr. to 70 deg. So if you're in a warm environment, you may need to chill it a bit to bring it in that range.

By the way, cold red wines loose flavor and aroma.

Depends. I prefer my red wine at room temp, but my white wine refrigerated.

red wine should be left out and never chilled, it takes all the flavour away when it is chilled, but a sparkling sweet white wine is perfect to refrigerate and some dry sweet ones...but red NEVER...respect red wine lol

Red wine is supposed to be served at about 75 degrees, so about room temp. The only exception is lambrusco which is served chilled.

White wine is served chilled, it brings out more of the flavors.
