I was with a friend the other day who came in contact with someone who had to be hospitalized for MRSA, and my mother was in contact with a coworker who was hospitalized with it.

I got a small pimple-like thing on my chest, and then another next to it and it has a patch of lighter skin around it. It's REALLY small and pretty unnoticeable though. There is another thing that looks like a pimple next to it. It seriously could be nothing and I could just be breaking out. The thing that worries me is the patch of lighter skin around it.

I don't have any open cuts or anything, but I did get my nose pierced two weeks ago and I know that MRSA carriers have it in their noses. I'm a healthy 19 year old, I don't play sports, go to a gym, etc. I do live in a college dorm but my bathroom is only shared with 4 people, it's cleaned regularly and we all use our own products.

I know it could be and probably is nothing, but what should I look out for?

I just want to know what to look out for. If it goes away without ever developing a boil or turning into an open sore, then is it safe to say it wasn't MRSA? How long does it have to turn into an open sore? I've had this for about two days now.

even if u only think it might be mrsa, DON"T TOUCH IT!!!! if u do, wash your hands right away, becaue if it is, u can spread it to some place else on ur body. it only takes a few days for it to become a boil, if u try popping it like a pimple (like i did, don't recomend it). i went to the ER in early june for a softball accident, then at the end of june, i had to go back to the ER because i had wat looked to be a bug bite that got infected. the sore had swelled up bigger that i quarter, i had been out of town so i hadn't been able to go sooner. my leg was radinating heat, and a red rash had spread all down my leg. it can become that bad, or during my other break outs, it is no where near that bad and sometimes they start really small then get bigger, or they stay really small and are still mrsa. wash all ur clothes after wearing them, don't borrow other people's towles, razors, deodorents, ect. or let them borrow your's. if u still have the red bump after a week or so or if it changes drastically, go see a doctor. good luck!! hope u don't have it!

Photos of MRSA lesions and examples of the open sore you ask about can be found in a PDF document, available online at
www.PhillipsCompany.4t.com/carolyn.pdf

That document also gives information about how to treat the lesion, under the care of a physician or hospital, if it turns out to be MRSA.

you can be a carrier for MRSA and never know it.....that is how it is being introduced into the community at large, people don't know they carry the bacteria. But, if it concerns you, go to your doctor and have cultures taken to find out if you are a carrier or not.
