If so, then you should know that it is not our fault. It was
not our choice to put you in a teeny tiny spot on the map.
When most of the inhabitants of this world, have a spiritual
compass. Somewhere inside. The lamest excuse I
hear from them. Oh if you would only show me, who
The Father is, then I don't believe. Blessed are those
who have not seen, yet believe. That is the code that we
spiritual minded souls, live by. But beware of the signs,
you will see His Face one day. And soon.... Then what
are you gonna say ? Read the Book of Revelations !

Religion is not illogical or irrational.
It has substance and meaning, just
look around you. Are you deaf or
blind ? This is powerful. And Israel
is all the proof you need. Period.

I love everybody. I have a family
member who is an atheist, and I
treat him like the others, with respect.
But how can you see all of this
spiritualism around you, and still have
doubts, when in fact that our actions
prove otherwise. Good comes from
a Divine Deity. Because of sin, we
cannot always do so though. However,
we are redeemed. And then our
conscience, through the Holy Spirit
becomes renewed. Which keeps us
from doing things, that only others
would do. Or consider bad or
worse than normal. This is beyond
human choice, and logic. What keeps
us from going overboard, is the fact
that love, is sent from Above. To
dwell within the hearts of the people.
The real Saints. Perhaps you should
talk to one. I do.

All you've said is that you're a Christian and all you've proved is that you've never had a discussion with an atheist.

you cannot say that all good comes from something divine, Plato said that Good was from the Form of Goodness, which was not God, Aristotle said that Good came from perfect actuality, they shaoed the modern worlds thoughts on religion and formed the basis for christianity and atheism..,.

you cannot generalise like that, you have to ask why some atheist are angry at christians for your question to have meaning.

also, atheists could argue that all religion is wrong and that perfoming our duty is that which counts, good also depends on what ethical system you are using, and all religions are their own system.

also Richard Dawkins is the only flawless philosopher and not even the likes of Vardey can prove him wrong, Dawkins has a point, but religion is too well established to be demolished.

how can i fail to be angry at christians? or at least some of them.
let me give you some examples:
1. The Pope. sits in pomp and finery in Vatican City whilst somewhere in the world there are people dying of hunger. his excuse for living like this is that its showing respect to God. one would remind him that 'it is as easy for a rich man to get to heaven as for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle.

2. Mr H, of S.M. church, Barrow-in-Furness. comes to Chetwynde school once a week to run a 'crossfire' club. this club was set up for 11-14 year olds to come and play games. mr harrison brings crosswords and wordsearches, spot-the-difference games and the like and rewards prizes of sweets to those who finish first. this would be fine. however, he then spends the last 10 minutes of each session preaching. he tells the children that God is real and that he is the reason the world came about. he once described evolution as 'rubbish' and informed me that creationism is a far more logical theory. what the crossfire club does, effectively, is bribes young people into beliveing in God, instead of giving them facts and allowing them to make an informed decision. Mr. H is a bad man.

3. all Catholics are against homosexuality, those who have had an abortion and many other groups of individuals yet equally, they claim to accept everyone, and to judge no-one ('judge not lest ye be judged'). they are hypocritical and predjudiced at the same time.

there are many other examples of christians who deserve to be disliked by atheists. besides, it's not just you i'm mad at. it's all religions. don't feel so victimised.

You are incorrectly assuming that religion has cornered the market on spirituality... You also go so far as to assume christianity has gone one step farther and cornered the market above all other religions...

Atheists have a moral compass it is simply not linked to a belief in a deity...

If there comes a time when I am faced with a deity I will simply say "I didn't believe you existed, on to the penalty phase."

Addition:.. Your assumptions continue.. You assume you know exactly what proof I need and go on to tell me how I will get this said proof by simply doing as you did...

Are you really this ego-maniacal or simply unable to express yourself without placing your foot firmly in your mouth?

-We're born,

-We're brought up,

-Hopefully our parents and the schools we go to teach us right from wrong, this gives us a guide as to how to live our lives

-It is wrong to imply that atheists somehow lack a moral compass because they don't believe in religion, in fact to say so smacks of a self-righteous arrogance

-You can know the difference between right and wrong as well as what is good and what is bad without needing to go to church : that should be blindingly obvious

-When we have kids or even if we find ourselves acting as a role model to a younger generation then we hopefully pass on to them what was told to us. It's positive role models which seem to be sadly lacking in some sections of society today

I'm an atheist and I'm not angry at christians in general, only those such as yourself who are so self righteous as to be nauseating. If you need a psychological crutch to get through life then that is your affair and you have no right to bombard us with your cant. Some of the most sick and twisted people that I have met in my life have been regular church goers so get down off your poxy pedastal and learn to enjoy and appreciate other viewpoints!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no. I myself am just disappointed that in this age of education, people are still willing to accept the ramblings of men who lived thousands of years ago. We have the technology and intelligence to research these matters properly, but you choose not to. Anyone who is willing to follow a faith blindly could be worshipping anything.
For arguments sake lets say a god does exist and that god created all that you are. Now you could spend your entire life living or worshipping in a way that offends that god. When you die, will pleading ignorance save you from Hell. Or will god ask you why you choose not to use the brain that he gave you.
The church has the money to dig the whole world up if it wanted and could at least attempt to prove it's claims.

A teeny tiny spot on the map? Atheists are not restricted to some sort of atheist island.

Spiritual compass? Spirituality and religion are different things.

When I see 'his' face, fair enough I will accept I am wrong, but when is that going to happen? If your god is so amazing, why cant he show you a bit of proof?

I am not going to waste my time reading a load of contradictory nonsense.

I am a Christian and I dont think that all atheists are this way. We dont have the right to be judgemental toward what people believe. We are to share the truth and let them decide. This is a little arrogant and not a good way to win souls for Jesus!

2007-11-02 06:39:35 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Thankfully, most sensible people I know are tolerant of theists and pretty much allow them to go about their business.
Where I live, they are allowed to build churches and religous monuments, why we even look on benignly as they build mono-religous schools, paid for with taxes raised by everyone.
We allow them to stand for Parliament and Local Authority positions and take a full role in public life.
I don't see much anger, but, if attitudes like yours become too common I can't see this state of affairs lasting very much longer.
Good luck, I think you may need it.

Judging by the recent plethora of diatribes against religion they are. Especially Richard Dawkins. So infuriated is he by religion's refusal to curl up and die in the weight of his invective that he feels the need to keep bringing out yet another book which, he thinks, will finally demolish religion.

Another atheist's comment on his latest offering perhaps reveals the reason for his repeated failures:

"The God Delusion makes me embarrassed to be an atheist..." (Michael Ruse)
