Xbox 360= Better games, better online community, costs less
PS3= will eventually have better graphics, less failure rate, free online
I couldn't help but notice how asinine Adrians answer was.
Most games out right now for the PS3 and Xbox 360 run way better on the 360. Proof, almost every single Sports game released on the PS3 runs at 30fps. The 360 runs them at 60fps. You are right about the failure rates, but you fail to mention that the Xbox 360 has a 3 year warranty for their system and the PS3 has 90 days.
"The PS3 is a console for gamers that like to play all types of games from shooters, racers, action/adventure, RPG's and more. The PS3 has a more diverse exclusive game library."
I don't mean to come off harshly, but are you blind? The PS3 has no where near the amount of games the Xbox 360 has and the Xbox 360 library of games is deeper than the PS3 is and ever will be. Hello? Burnout:Revenge, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, Halo 3, Project Gotham Racing 4, Forza Motorsport 2, Prey, Dead Rising, the list goes on. The PS3 has so little exclusives I can count them on both hands. I have a PS3 and enjoy it, but it is NOT without its faults. The 360 is for all gamers and I suggest you actually get off your PS3 and "Jump In".

The question that you have just asked has been asked so many times, you could have saved yourself 5 points by looking at other questions and answers of your same question.
I recommend that you get the PS3. The PS3 has the best graphics and performance. The failure rate of PS3's are less than 1%, the Xbox 360 failure rate is 30%. With the PS3 you can literally play games for days and the console wont over heat as long as it has the proper ventillation.
The PS3 does have great online gameplay, but the Xbox 360 in my opinion is more of a multiplayer/online game console. I don't play multiplayer games or play online so it doesn't matter to me.
I have a PS3 and it's clearly the best. If you get a 360, you would be wasting money because the chances of it getting the Red Ring of Death is pretty likely, the PS3 has WiFi and everything else built in.
The PS3 is a console for gamers that like to play all types of games from shooters, racers, action/adventure, RPG's and more. The PS3 has a more diverse exclusive game library. The Xbox 360 is a console that has most First person shooters and shooters for it's exclusive games. I'm a diverse gamer, I'm a Sony gamer, and the PS3 is the better choice.

Caleb is right but for someone who is not swimming in money, not having the best graphics, or not having alot of games, i think is better that watching your console fail, and having to send it in thinking "great, now what am I gonna do for the next month?" And games...If you know of a game that is on Xbox only and you REALY want it then I guess go with 360, but if your like me and you see Call of Duty 4, Haze, GTA IV, Need for Speed Pro Street, all coming to PS3...then buy the PS3. Also how many games does a person need? If you buy a Xbox 360, because there are so many games, Are you gonna buy the all? 60bucks a game, 6-7 games and you've spent the price of your 360 already! So Get the PS3, find one or two good games and get em.

Like I said before, both are good! It depends on your situation. and I said facts. I wan't to try to get to the point w/ my answer. I gave you very credible websites and sources of info so you can also do your own research. Take Wikipedia w/ a grain of salt, it isn't the most reliable source it has been caught w/ some very faulty info. I believe The RSX (performance "meaning power" between an NVidia GeForce 7700 & 7800 as reported by NVidia), has the power of 2 GeForce 6900 Ultras running in an SLI motherboard. All technology whether PS3 or Xbox 360 is PC Technology. Product of the future doesn't always mean performance of the future. No matter how many kernels the cell has it is still, 1 PPE (CPU core) w/ 8 SPE's or SPU's ( 7 stream processors w/ 1 for redundancy). The STI Cell + Rambus RAM(XDR), are being used as an alternative for giving PS3 PC performance. The Rambus RAM is clocked at 3.2Ghz ( I said it was fast). No amount of technical info is going to make me ignore the graphical flaws of PS3 games on average. The CPU core + stream processing cores together are used to give PS3 good in game physics ( for example: fully destructible environments. subtle vibrations of vehicles, & good animation). Some tech info, all of the average processors on the market - this doesn't exclude the Cell or the Tri core 360 CPU - are so fast, they can easily handle RAM beyond 1000Gb's (Giga Bytes),so increasing RAM, always increases performance (Gb's per second). If there is even 1 exception about what I said about CPU's sold not being able to handle that much memory it is very very very very rare, and I'm not including micro devices such as cell phones. Both systems have good games. The extremely weak PS2 is still #1 selling also, Wii is #2. bottom line you make the final decision.

PS3.
Oh, and Caleb, and in defence of Adrian;
Are you aware that some of the games you mentioned are/will be on the PS3. Oblivion is regarded as looking better on the PS3, and Eternal Sonata will also make an appearance on the console with added extras.
As for the 360 having the better of the multi-platform titles, i guess you haven't seen Stranglehold, Dirt, GRAW2, etc.
Yes, there are a lot of sports titles which underperform on the PS3, which all tend to be EA titles, who claim a lack of time developing on the console as the fault.
Oh, and as for Burnout. You are aware that the new game, Paradise due Jan '08, was developed with PS3 as the lead platform.
Mass effect does look like a corker, and so far it is the only game i've seen on the 360 i'd like a closer look at.
And i'll take Gran Turismo and FFXIII over Forza and Blue dragon.
Can't see any platformers either, especially that rival Ratchet and Clank.

you are better off getting a ps3 because...
- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player
-ps3 supports 1.3 HDMI which has rich colors and xbox supports 1.2 HDMI
- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 50gb)
- because of the blu-ray's huge space, ps3 will have WAY better graphics than 360
- online is free for ps3 not like 360
- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring
- you can browse the internet on ps3, no such thing for xbox 360
- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it
- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have(FREE)
- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p
- built in Wi-Fi
- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: .2% hardware failure(see the decimal? less than 1%!)
- ps3 has better back-comp except the 40gb
- rumble returns in spring 2008
- you can upgrade your harddrive without voiding warranties with any 2.5 HDD, which xbox cant because you have to buy a xbox HDD
(they actually have the step by step on how to upgrade it on playstation.com)
those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this
Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $499 with motorstorm
40gb: $399 with spiderman 3 blu-ray
xbox 360(premium)- $399
(elite)- $479
if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars, so that means ps3 is actually cheaper

You should buy the Xbox 360. Better games, better graphics, and better online gameplay. The PS3 is a joke compared to the Xbox 360.

there are so many varriables in this.
for xbox360:
if you want to modify it then it's compatible.
more games for it because of the cost of the system. (if a system costs more money to buy, then game makers will tend to make it for a less expensive system just because they know people don't like to spend massive amounts of money)
you have a risk of your xbox getting a problem. the problem rate is high but if you do have a problem then your likely to have microsoft to fix it free of charge. might have to pay for the shipping.
what games do you like? sports? shooting? online enabled?
do you like a good online community?
do you want to be able to ask some one hey you have a xbox360 and they answer yes? (chances are higher than if you own a ps3)
if you answered yes to any of these questions xbox360 is for you!
ps3:
1. is graphics something that tends to be the line between and enjoyable game and a bad one?
2. do you love shooting games? *yes it has lots of shooting games as well as 360 its a common factor*
3. did you like the ps2 and have lots of games for it?
4. do you have lots and lots of money?
5. does the price of a game tend to make you not buy it?
6. MUST you have the vibrating feature in the controller in order for it to feel as enjoyable as possible?
7. do you like sports games?
how much would could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? =P
if ps3 IS for you then your answers should be:
1,yes
2,yes
3, yes
4, yes
5, no
6, no
7, kinda

PS3 very low failure rate, online free, graphic card 24 pixel shaders, 8 vertex shaders @ 550 Mhz., main RAM @ 3200Mhz Better graphics, faster RAM, Free online gameplay, wifi integrated and bluray for games that contain more textures, AI and levels, for HDmovies
Xbox360 red ring of death, paying to play online,
slow graphic card(explain below) - geometric shaders althoughs 48 is not as fast as dedicated vertex and pixel shaders, slow RAM shared with system and graphic card @700 Mhz
compared xbox360 and ps3 with pc technologies.
geforce 7600GT and 7600Gs is faster than 8600GT with geometric shaders
7600GT/GS 12pixel shaders, 5 vertex shaders
8600GT 32 geometric shaders although 2 times faster clocks than geforce 7600GT/GS but RUN GAMES SLOWER
Ati got a graphic card with 128 geometric shaders that runs slower than geforce 8600GT 32 geometric shaders because another parameter have to be taken into consideration, it is ROP processers. geforce 8600GT has 8 while ATI card has only 4. xbox360 has an Ati graphic card with only 48 shaders...think carefully
PS3 believe to have at least 8 because it is based on geforce 7950GT which is the highest version of geforce 7600GT/GS
