That's right next to the verse that says you should stone your disobedient kids.

Ya know, I always see those bumper stickers that say WWJD?
When I ask myself that vis-a-vis Fred Phelps, I think he falls way short.
And after all, Leviticus is in the Old Testament. If you've read the Bible, you know that Christ's teachings in the New Testament are often diametrically opposed to those in the Old Testament, particularly where judgement and forgiveness are concerned.

Leviticus has lots of nonsense that we currently ignore. So do other OT verses. Do we currently stone our children? No. Do we kill our mothers for wearing various types of cloth in a single garment? Not so much. Have you sold your daughter into slavery lately? Probably not. Burned your brother alive for growing different crops in the same field? I certainly hope not.
Interesting isn't it, how much of the OT we ignore or reject out of hand and then KEEP those parts that appeal to us and then claim that they're 'holy scripture' and therefore must be followed? It's called 'cherry picking', it's called hypocrisy, it's called a 'double standard' and whatever you call it it's foul.

I have read some of their stuff. It is well researched and argued with the thoroughness of the insanely fanatic.
I have also read the statements of two of his sons and a third party biography.
No, the man is not stupid, but he does seem to be an extreme example of a psychotic and a long term crank.

Well it is pretty black and white, if you happen to be a Jew living at the dawn of the iron age, 3,000 years ago.
But that's about as black and white as it gets. It takes more space than Yahoo Answers provides to get into the whole issue of exegesis - or how to interpret the bible in its entirety - but suffice it to say that Christianity is not the bible. It has the bible for scriptures, but the bible does not itself directly dictate verbatim the Christian faith. Scholarly interpretation of the scriptures and traditions of 2,000 years of faith do that.

It only applies if the government in power is a Biblically based theocracy and will condone such an action. If it's not, who cares what the #@&*$%# Leviticus says?

I agree that the bible teaches against same sex relationships, but i don't agree with Phelps hateful and hurtful ways. I feel so sorry for those who have had a funeral ruined by him and his group. I believe he would do better to get his church to fast and pray about the situation instead of acting so mean.

He is right about Leviticus 20:13, but the way he protests gives Christianity a bad reputation.

We are supposed to follow Jesus as Christians. I am an abomination to GOD without Jesus. As soon as I can go a year or so without sinning I will then worry about the sins of other people.
Hope that helps.

Leviticus is an old testament book, in the new testament, the new covenant with all men and God, we are not to kill those that do not agree with us, doing so makes us God.
He is a nut job.
Peace!
