Among other things, no fear of death as I have a hope beyond the grave. The peace is amazing when you realize that this life is only the beginning.

I became a Christian six years ago, at around age 34 -- before that I'd gone to church fewer than 12 times my whole life. I was too smart for "Church," and I thought Christians were simplistic and stupid. I didn't believe in God.
God made Himself known to me, and after a couple of years of going to church occasionally. I really committed to God, to growing in Christ, and in learning as much as I could.
I was baptized three years ago, began seminary two years ago, and now I'm a student pastor at a church.
My relationship with Christ has changed my life in ways non-believers can't understand is possible.
I still listen to the Grateful Dead, and I watch 30 Rock on NBC, but I seldom curse, because I seldom get angry enough to curse. I don't drive like a nut, I don't carry the anger for others that I used to carry.
My life is completely different, and completely better, when Christ opened my eyes to Him, and to the world around me. We give more than 10 percent of our money to a wide variety of charities, and I genuinely care about other people, in ways I never did before.
The more I try to live like Christ, the better my life gets. I'm almost completely free of worry, because I know Christ is there, and has a plan for me. God takes care of the birds on the trees, so surely God will take care of me. It sounds completely crazy to non-believers, but it's 100 percent true.
What the best thing? I'm a better person because of God. And if the non-believers were somehow right, and there is no paradise at the end of our lives, it still would be worth it all, because the quality of my life right now, is so much better than it was before.
Better than I could have possibly have imagined, and better than I can hope to explain.
Godspeed.

The best thing is having context.
Let me 'splain....
Humans are social animals that thrive on relationships, and we're also psychological beings that thrive on the structure of an organized mythology that assigns language and images and rituals and such to our individual and shared experiences. Christianity establishes a community of interdependent relationships. It offers a time-tested path to connect to that spiritual energy that is inside us as well as outside and to channel this energy into actions for the good of others.
Our voices and lives draw from and contribute to 2,000 years of ascending voices, of humans living imperfectly [and often even cruelly] but nonetheless intent on doing their best for something other than themselves. Being connected to that tradition has a certain value that I did not experience either as an atheist or as a DIY spiritual-but-not-religious person.
Thanks for asking!

Well for one we know we won't be going to that fiery Hell which burns forever. And a Pastor defined forever to counting one grain of sand one by one. Now that is a long time. Two we have special privileges. God hears our prayers, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside us to comfort us, and to guide us, and to help us in our weakness, we are a blessed people, and God will defend us when we are wronged by Satan's children. We have the authority to rebuke the Devil, and cast out his demons. We are the only ones who has permission to use Jesus' name. That is some of the best things, I just couldn't narrow it down to one.

Wow..I dont even know where to begin.
For starters....its knowing that with each new day I wake, God's grace is renewed.
Its knowing that Jesus is right by my side.
Its being able to dicsern Gods work in plain sight while others are oblivious.
Its knowing that God loved me enough to send His only Son Jesus to die for me.
Its knowing that I dont have to worry about anything in life.
Its knowing that life is not about me, but about Him.
Its knowing that He is mine and I am His.
Its knowing that He loves me dispite my imperfctions.
There is no "one" best thing about being a christian...but there are many great things about being in Christ.

the best thing anout being a christian is that I do not fight my battles alone.....i have an faithful friend in Jesus who is only a prayer far away.Though i am undeserving He loves and cares for me. His grace is sufficient unto me. The lord is my shepherd and i shall not want. who can be against me if God is for me? it is having a sweet precious personal unique relationship with God which makes it the best thing about being a christian. Taste God's sweetness.......you never know what you miss until you try it yourself! God bless you.
