Why would Jeff Gordon having the most wins (13) for a season, in the modern era, surprise you? However, if Jimmie ends up with the most again this year he will have done that 3 out of the last 5 seasons and Gordon hasn't won the most since Jimmie has been driving fulltime in the cup series (2002).
