I have no problems with either of them existing...it's when one tries to influence the other that I have problems.

This is an interesting question, should politics exsist? From a religious standpoint, yes they should. God put in place a political structure that is more or less followed today, we have always had some semblance of politics, even in the garden of Eden, the family structure is very political.
If there is no God, there are no politics, we can all make up our own truth and nothing is universal, so if there is no God, then there can be no law that says it is universally wrong to shoot and kill your wife because she spend too much money.
Should religion exsist?
From a religious standpoint, yes and no.
Religion is people trying to figure out the right way and to find God, a very good goal in life. But religion is far to often used to control the way we think and lead us away from God, when it should be showing us and helping us find out what God wants us to do it gets corrupted. So should corrupt religion exsist? No, but are we human and easily corrupted, YES. So it has to exsist, the best we can do is take the good and try to sift through the bad and find a religion as close to the absolute truth as possible.
Should religion and politics exsists together?
Yes, as I stated earlier without God there is no politics and without God (absolute truth) there is no need for politics. So religion is then intertwined with politics regardless of how hard we try to seperate them.
Who says it's wrong to kill your brother?
The Bible - better answer, GOD.
Why would we listen to the rules of a faillible man, based on his opinion, we should listen to the absolute truth of the matter which is the same regardless of how we feel about it.

Yes, there is no escaping it. Neither politics or religion would exist without God. They should both exist peacefully, but not mix. One certainly should not negate the other one. It's people who distrust God's truth that are the scourge of a peaceful society, not God.

Most secularists say that religion should kepp out of politics. why?
Our constitution says that politics should keep its hands out of religion. I like that.
Faced with a choice between someone whose ethical standards change daily, and someone whose don't, I will vote
for the person whose ethical standards don't shift with popular opinion.
