Moved into room that use to have two phone lines. We have one phone line now. Looking at the jack in the wall, it has two sockets for two phone cords..hence two lines. I get a static sound when using just this room phone and internet at same time. When trying to change the jack I found four wires, however it looks like I have two RED and two BLACK. They are screwed into red/black line one....red/black line two. Help, how do I change this and can I just put the lines anywhere??

From what you wrote I am sure that you don't need to changed the jack even though its wired non standard for phone service. I am going to assume that you have a DSL service. If that's the case you need only to use the filter as was mentioned in other answers above. If you have dial-up its the modem sound you are hearing and will hear it at any phone on the network. If its dial-up and you are not hearing it at other phone then there are definitely more than one line to the building and you need to get the talk line trace out and connected to your room jack.

I suggest leaving the wiring alone, and putting a filter on the phone line, the kind of filter that DSL users have. I have DSL, and if I use the phone at the same time as the computer is in use, there is static on the line. The static is interference from the computer, in my case. It would be worth a shot, unless someone knowledgeable about phone lines answers your question.
