Ahh I feel sorry for people who think that the finite is worthless.... I think it is the other way around.. the infinite is worthless. It's because if something is infinite, it never changes, and if something never changes, it has no wonder to it, life without change has no meaning and no purpose. Think about it, if winter was infinite it would have no meaning like it does now, it wouldn't be the season of hot chocolate and fun, waiting for the first snow etc. If the sun never set nor rose there would be no sunsets or sunrises to enjoy. Part of life that I find most precious is it's fleeting nature... Nothing lasts forever. Take dogs for example, so precious and full of life, and yet such a short life compared to us humans, that does not make their life worth less, if anything it makes their lives more precious to be cherished while it lasts.. No the most precious things in life are those that do not last, love, happiness, friends, family, life is fleeting, that is what gives it such worth. When people place more value on the hope of infinite life, this life loses it's precious meaning. I will never be guilty of that I may only liv once, in a finite universe but I will make sure to give that life all the worth I can... I could die tomorrow those I love could die tomorrow, so I make sure to seize the day, and live life to it's fullest and greatest potential.. Carpe Diem..

We have to in order to find meaning in this universe. All life is finite. Human lifespans are small moments in the cosmic passage of time. The universe doesn't revolve around human beings or promise us continuity.

So we must find value in the finite, in things that are beautiful but will not last. This includes ourselves.

Intellect.

The potential to create, improve, and in some cases destroy, pure intellectual value of the mind.

Why else would we speak? When one speaks, you use oxygen. Someone might claim that just because your life will not last forever, it is not worth the air consumed by your body, in its act of speaking.

But does that mean we should not speak?

No.

I once wondered something similar; what is the point of life? Many would say that we are here to serve God, however, as an atheist, I see no truth in that. Just the same, we do no good for the planet. We allow animal testing and abuse. We pollute.

Our presence on Earth has literally no positive affect, whatsoever.

...Aside one thing: intellect. Better understanding ourselves, and those around us.

Thought, thought processes, communication, and the potential for those previously mentioned are worth life. Therefore, mortal life has worth--not worthless, by any means.

Things don't last forever but they are not entirely useless. Have you ever appreciated the work of an ice carver? There is beauty in a flower just a few hours before it wilts away. That moment exists by itself. It's not entirely worthless if it made the observer happy or even merely amused.

There is some value in the finite and God said that the
good works we do have an eternal value as well!
The infinite is always of More value.

It is about priorities.

Life takes wisdom and understanding/insight,
not just "brains".

Example: your body is finite, yet it is important to
exercise so that with your good health, you can
help others more - and help others, not just physically,
but spiritually - then that DOES last - so it is good
to exercise for that reason - to do good works!

Nothing lasts forever, but it all has meaning for me... life is finite, but of amazing value. When something reaches it's finite stage, it simply means we must move forward in our lives and experience something more... it just gets better and better...

Nothing lasts forever, not even the earth and sky, despite what Kansas would have you believe. We have to decide on worth based on our own experience. To me, a nice day, about 60 degrees F, sunny with a few clouds and a light breeze, my wife and I on horseback with our son(soon to be sons), is worth more than every dollar I've ever earned. But that won't even last a day, except in my memory.

no count what state or usa you're in. being pregnant doens't halt a divorce or submit telephone something. Sorry seems such as you try to apply it(the being pregnant) as a reason to maintain you 2 together. If he cheated attempting to apply a being pregnant to maintain him with you is a lame excuse. as quickly as a cheater consistently a cheater and thats no longer the existence you prefer for the infant.

The whole notion of lasting forever is enough to get a person under pressure. He will be too fearful of losing it. I think if a person wants to find peace, he needs not to look outside but inside and mind you company also matters!

If energy and matter cannot be destroyed, is anything really finite?

Or is finite merely an illusion of perception?
