These people DO NOT represent a true Christian Church. They are self-serving hypocrites who need to be institutionalized. Anyone that praises the death of one of our brave men and women fighting an unpopular war, needs to be treated, and quickly!! I believe in free speech, but this is tasteless, revolting and sickening and this IS NOT the first time they have demonstrated this way. God have mercy on them, because I'd say anymore outbursts like this, and the Marines, Veterans or a pissed off family member will not show them any mercy!! Semper Fi!! and God bless our troops!

"You will know them by their works"
This church professes Christianity, but the problem is it doesn't know what it is let alone if it truly believes or is a follower of Christ. I pity it and know that people like that are the ones who give Christianity a bad name. I am offended, (although a Christian) i know that we're not to condemn others since that isn't our job and i am very saddened that these individuals who call themselves would go to the extremes to try to justify something. I am a babe in Christ but i already know that the steps these people have on their way gone is utmost ridiculous. I also believe that what goes around, comes around, and that's the case here now but fighting and suing each other isn't gonna heal any wounds they need to forgive themselves and try to work things out. Just *my two cents*
God bless

I do not believe Phelps or his church represents Christian principles, and I think most Christians are repulsed by the Westboro Baptist Church and its followers [as am I]. The issue is even larger than the Christian community - I'd like to see AMERICANS take a stand against this guy. Regardless of religious or political stance, their actions are outrageous!!!
Side note: I honestly think that stuff like this is more what constitutes "using God's name in vain". Using the name of God to advance an agenda like theirs is wrong. I think swearing and saying G.D. etc is a very minor example of using God's name in vain. I think Westboro, Phelps, and others like them are a MAJOR example of using God's name in vain.

Try finding out what true Christianity is all about rather than picking examples of people who use the name but clearly are as far removed from Christian as it is possible to be.
Anyone can call themselves a Christian; the Bible says the prove is in the way you live.

I briefed the article but get the important parts, the cheering, anti-gay thing, the hate.
My heart sank and hurt for his loved ones.
The best that we can ever do in situations like that is to continue to love. Love no matter what, especially when pain is involved and it is close to the heart and it is hard to believe you'll even servive it, but love anyway.
God has my back in every situation, even the ones I don't like even when I am intense pain. And, I have been there, not short term either.
Lose the world and you still have your true self, soul.
We live in a world of duality. This duality gives us the benefit of knowing the difference, which produces wisdom and personal growth, maturity as soul.
Censorship is counter productive to this process, counter productive to freedom and freedom of choice. Let us chose and make our mistakes and reap their consequence and make our successes and reap their rewards.

This is more an example of domestic abuse and child abuse than anything "religious".
This "church" has only 70 members mostly made up of extended family and not affiliated with any other denomination. So, it isn't a really a church. It's a family steeped in abuse, evil and mental illness. The only "cure" would be to sneak in and sterilize them all so that they die out, but of course that's wouldn't be Christ-like. Can Jesus save people this evil?
Hopefully the court ruling will continue to stand. Free speech is not absolute and never has been.

Rather, it's a good example of one sociopath (Fred Phelps) and the horrible things that have happened because of his influence over his family (the entire church consists of his immediate family and *their* families ).
I truly don't mean this as a copout --- I know that some horrible things have been done in the name of Christianity. But if you're interested in learning more about Fred Phelps, this wikipedia article both bears out what I have to say and is incredibly fascinating:

Sorry, dear one, but those folks aren't even Christians. They only hide under the name of Jesus to do their evil. They are one singular family who has inbred themselves into insanity.
They probably won't pay the judgment amount and will continue to appeal for as long as they can.
The good thing is that they were found guilty and if they continue with their evil ways, they will be found in contempt and jailed.

It's a hate mongering group of people, on a par with the KKK, who twist scripture for their own mis-guided purposes. WBC is more of a cult than a church, but this is the USA & they have freedom of speech, too.
