Sandal wood is not used for shoes by Hindu Monks -This is a Mis/Dis Information.I think not by Buddhist monks also(but about Buddhists I am not sure)--Sandal is considered as SACRED and in Hindu rituals, while worshipping God(Idlos) Sandal Paste is applied between the Eys brows(Aagjnaa Chakram) of the idol or Siva Lingam.and the remaining if any is applied on the forehead, by the devotee.--"Chandhana Charchitha, Neela Kalebara, sri Vachana Vanamaali Raadhe"---(sri.Radha is the Lover of Lord sri.Krishna)Chandhanam=Sandal wood --But Hindu,Buddhists monks wear wooden shoes because they do not want to use shoes of Animals' skin (-Non Violence--Animal abuse)---In India to cut a Sandal wood Tree, one has to take license(written permission) from Government(Under conversation of Forests law) and one ripe sandalwood tree is enormously costly(thousands of U.S.Dollars.)

Easier to wear and cheap...no need to waste time in wearing socks and then shoes..just slip them in and the point here is they need to remove them a million times hence the Sandal would be the best choice...

Because they're the closest that someone without gratuitous callouses on the soles of their feet can come to walking naturally (i.e. barefoot).
Unfortunately... the average human foot is too soft to be able to move comfortably on rough ground.

'Cause these dudes are ON THE GO--they've got stuff to do, and can't be wasting bits of eternity on laces, buckles, etc.

That's what's up with the whole robe thing, too--toss it over your head, and you're good to go. And no unbuttoning or unzipping when you have to use the facilities!

Because if you're wearing sandals, you're more likely to get dust on your feet - which you can then complain about lol.
