why is it that if i'm in the city, in the winter time, i get the feeling to play, and listen to more blues music. i like it all year long, but in the winter time it seems fantastic in a sence of it sounds like the weather. it seems like places, and weather influence alot of what people listen to. anyone know why?

Its just what you have been exposed to from an early age... although I don't think this is necessarily always true.

As far as music and weather, they both affect our moods!

Winter is cold, and "dark", so it has a tendency to make people feel blue. Trust me, this is a proven theory. So, you have the urge to listen to blues, because you got those winter blues. It doesn't usually affect me. I listen to Janis all year long, but ABBA does appeal to me a bit more during christmas time though, but maybe it's because I was obsessed with ABBA few years ago around christmas.

My geographical location has no effect on my choice for the styles of music I choose, when I choose them. I enjoy listening to compositions by Mozart when I am involved in my art form. I enjoy techno works that are compiled as mixes done by Paul Oakenfold, and George Acosta, works by Pink Floyd, and The Grateful Dead. I enjoy the music of Santana when I am doing domestic slave work, A lot of stuff by Madonna, Elvis, The Beatles, and others. And I also enjoy the beauty of the sounds of silence. One of my favorite compositions is the theme to the movie, " A Band of Brothers". So that about covers it.

It could have alot to do with Sense Memory. Sometimes, without knowing it, you may just associate a song with a certain place or time of the year because at one point in your life, there was a connection between those two things.

Music is all about emotion so, it dose not surprise me that certain styles are more favorable at times or seasons. For me its how I feel depends on what I play the stronger the emotion the more intense I play the song, I even go as far as to change the style to a certain degree

>> Music affects peoples emotions & peoples emotions affect the type of music they listen to. The seasons can also influence peoples emotions ~ so I guess cause & effect, this follows through with the music. etc.
Ciao!

i think it is more mood related....in the winter in the city is kinda a more bluesy time of year....in the summer when it is hot and you are in more of a sunny mood you want to listen to more upbeat music..i know when it is raining it puts me in a mellow mood so i listen to mellow music..

Man, it is all associations.

Some of it learned behavior from youth, some of it collective unconscious.
