We actually try here in the mountains of SW Virginia. We (non dem) along with the United Methodist Church, Two major Baptist churches, along with about 4 others do try to work together at times. We get together to provide Thanksgiving meals to the elderly, shut-ins, widows etc at Thanksgiving, we all come together to have an event called our Harvest Hoedown at Halloween, where we have kids from everywhere as an event where the kids have Hayrides through the bible, and then at Christmas, we have what we call "An Old Fashion Christmas" with Food, refreshments, singing, all together to reach out to our community. As one minister put it, we may have different theologies, but we all work for the same man.

I think you said it in that last part, "because aren't we all apart of the same body anyways?", the answer to that being a definate no. If you all believed in the same God your tradional worship should go about the same way. The lack of organization stems from disbelief or the lack of will to follow instruction. To me that is unsettling that Christians can't even get along with eachother no to mention the rest of the world.

I think possibly because that would be logical and no religion has ever dealt in logic. As to going back to the catholic church it may be able to trace it roots back to the early Christians but like all organisations that become rich and powerful it has also become corrupt and it is probably the protestant religion started by Martin Luther that was nearer the original christian church

It must have been wonderful, in the days when all churches were RC, to know you could claim any church, where you happened to be, as MY church!
We are one in the Body of Christ.
We are one in the the family of God.
We are one in the Spirit of God.
We are one in the His LOVE!
We are even relatives, in the family of personkind, with compatable body parts and compatable blood. We can have blood transfusions from all races!!!
All Christian churches are united through the BODY OF CHRIST which is the only real church.
Here in my home town, all denominations work well together.
We combine on Sunday evening services in the park every Summer! Also crusades and prayer and praise meetings.
When a pastor was diagnosed with ancer, EVERY minister in town gathered at his church to pray over him (and he is now cancer free)!
Instead of a Crusade, one time, we did home repairs for the poor iin a massive, costly town-wide mission funded by us all!!!
We also combine to operate a food bank, and we even have restaurant meal vouchers for substance abusers who would sell the food for booze money.
I have been secretary-treasurer of the Ministerial Association, to which all Christian churches except cults (like JW) participate. We have a rule to ONLY discuss areas of agreement, and NEVER argue about theological differences at the meetings!!!
There is ONE church with Christ as the head!
Let us uphold each other in love and encouragement.
R & S is harmed by our theological bickering. Let them know us by our love!!!

The reason is simple - you all have differing interpretations on how you should worship Him - and those differences, whilst they might seem minor to an outsider - will have a massive impact on different denominations. Imaging the Catholics with women priests? Not going to happen.

Because you are all to stubborn to allow for individual interpretation and personal spirituality. You can't unite the Christians for the same reason you can't unite with Humanists.... you aren't capable of letting people be.

Nobody has ever taken me up on it, but my suggestion has always been to shoot the theologians. With them out of the way there would be nobody to tell the rest of us why unity isn't possible, and it might stand some chance of happening.

That would be great...now imagine if ALL religions could accpet EACH OTHER and work together towards helping people on a worldwide basis. Instead of trying to convert each other!!! IMAGINE what could be accomplished.

Sounds nice, in a "Rodney King, "can't we just all get along" kind of way....
But, unity at what cost?
No Bishop - no Church.
"Wheresoever," writes St. Ignatius of Antioch, on his way to martyrdom in Rome in abut 86 A.D. "the bishop appears, there let the people be, even as wheresoever Christ is, there is the Catholic Church."

Go on, form a real church of your friends, ignore the denoms, and make absolutely certain that you have all mature males as pastors, of equal standing.
