Well round here its because they're waiting to see how much it is before they work out which card has enough credit left on it to cover it. Don't you just love being behind the ones who don't know their pin, and then have to find their glasses as well?

I think that men are also guilty of this, but as to putting away everything after the transaction, I think it is good to take a little time to make sure (if you are a woman or a man) that your credit card is put away properly, that your cash is secure and that you have all of your purchases. Too bad you are in a hurry, you can always go to a line that you can check yourself in and out of, or that has a shorter waiting line. Have a happy day.

I always get mine out while the cashier is ringing up my groceries. If I'm writing a check, I have everything filled out/signed except for the total, so it makes it quicker. If I'm in line at the ATM, I have my card in hand for when it's my turn.
What bugs the sh*t out of me is when the store is really busy and the cashier gives the person her change/receipt (I say "her" because I've never seen a man do this) and the woman will stand there fumbling with her money, organizing her bills, folding her receipt, putting her coins in her wallet, etc. Meanwhile, the cashier has already rung up about 1/3 of my groceries and the bagger has run out of room on the counter, everything's piling up and getting squished, and I can't get my cart out front so that the bagger can start loading it because the stupid b*tch in front of me is still putting her change away, looking for her keys, etc. I really would like to ram people like this in their achilles tendons with the front of my cart sometimes. That'll make 'em move! Well, it would probably actually make them fall down, but once down I can step over them. :D

Strange. I find it's men who are the sinners. They're the ones who also say at the last minute that they want to pay by credit card. So everyone else has to wait while they fish out their card, put it in the machine, type in their PIN-code etc.

Not all women do, and come on you must have been behind the over weight , stressed Dad with the kids in tow, who has his hands full (literally) because he forgot a basket, and he then has to search for his wallet!
Not as slick as the females who can juggle a full shopping cart, a baby and 2 toddlers, and still have their payment at the ready!

This lady orders on line, and has groceries delivered, just because I can't stand dealing with lines. I order on line. Nothing is going to be done about it ,just because you post on yahoo forums. People are people, have a tolerance, or make changes in your life.

I also hate it when once everything has been paid, they spend 10 mins just putting their cash/card/purse away into their handbag and then picking up their bags, because like there's no one else waiting is there?

Ahh, you've foiled our sneaky plan, damnit!
We are actually stalling for as much time as possible because we know when we take the shopping home we're the ones who are going to have to unpack it, cook it, then do the dishes afterwards.
But, the good news is, there is a solution - you do the bloody housework! ;)
