I think you have one very talented dog there!! Did you know the Rotti has the correct nasal cavity for learning to talk? And some dogs do purr or rather make a purring sound. Mind snorts when you say something he finds "amusing". I have a pit bull and he likes to emit a purring sound also. I also have a black lab/golden retriever mix, a rotti pup, and a jack russell peke mix. The one who gives me the most trouble is the Jack Peke mix. The rott pup I found on Oct 14th and posted fliers and on the net she'd been found but no one came to claim her so we kept her. Rottweilers are very intelligent dogs and have been known to learn many different tasks. Some are even used as therapy dogs and I find this wonderful as it helps to dispel the negative press they get along with the pits.

Given the intelligence your dog has already displayed, I'd say "yes" it is possible your dog learned to purr from your cat.

You dog is going through an identity crisis he thinks he is a kitty. Seek help he needs a pet shrink lol jk I think it is cute but never heard of a purring dog. Maybe you can make some money off of this call Ripleys or something email the tonight show or Oprah or something. Do it before the dog figures out he is a dog and send half of the profits to me.

not sure. i had a doberman that used to moan when you scratched his ears. it was slightly different than growling, and scared the hell out of strangers (he was a big baby). i would venture to guess he did learn it from the cat. my mom's dogs learned to smile when they greet you at the door cuz they're so happy, even though it goes against their nature. why not learn to purr when happy?

Yes, one of my dogs purrs when he is petted. Kind of a gutteral, grunting purr. If you stop petting him, he will put his paw out and (unintentially) gouge you with his sharp claws, because he loves to be petted!

SOmetimes he comes up and asks to be petted by digging at me with his claws--painful!
