During my tour in Iraq I interfaced with British, and Japanese troops.
The British troops concerned me because of their 'I'm better than you' attitude and the fact that they routinely ignored graphical control measures on a map (such as sector boundaries). Their also had a tendency to ignore things we told them and forget that something that worked for them may not work for us who were in a completely different situation.
I was _really_ impressed with the Japanese. Their staff work was outstanding and their convoys were executed with a precision that was amazing to observe. I did kind of feel sorry for the Japanese troops because they had an ROE that required them to break contact if they were attacked and only allowed them to return fire as a 'last resort.' Although they were very professional in hiding their frustration - it was there and I would expect that the Japanese government is getting an 'earful' from their people who deployed to Iraq right now.

ROK Marines; fierce with a warrior attitude totally dedicated to killing the enemy and protecting the unit and fellow ROK Marines. Highly disciplned and tough soldiers with a gigh sense of duty and loyalty. Never fought ith but did some training with French troops once and that was enough; more interested in taking it easy and the comfort level then in actually training to fight. The French Foreign Legion troops I have heard are very different in that aspect still but never worked with them.

Which war are you talking about?? If you are talking the second world war, at what time are you talking?? The best fighting troops in the world overall are the second world war British ( which comprised of Indian, Australian, Canadian and all other British Commonwealth nations) They were fighting before ANYONE else got involved! By the time the US got involved they were seasoned hard core troops and had fought for years before US troops got over there. If you ask a WW2 British soldier who they respected most they would tell you the Indians! Fierce soldiers! Least respected would be the Italians. Don't get me wrong they had good soldiers just not enough and bad leadership.

the Aussie's they were some of the bravest men I've ever seen and dedicated to kicking butt and taking no names. I never met one that I didn't like as a person too. Most of them had such great personalities and were funny as heck. The worst were the French. It seemed like it wasn't in them to fight (coward? don't know), but I don't think they've ever won a war at any time.

ROK Marines for sure. They didn't earn the nickname the "Invincible Marines" for nothing.
