My 9 year old daughter has to do a project for school on North Carolina. We are trying to find a drink or a snack that is made in North Carolina to bring as samples for the kids in her class. As an example my other daughter had her project on Florida and we brought in Florida orange juice for the class. Does anyone have a resonable ideas?

The Birthplace of Pepsi is located in historic New Bern, North Carolina. Pepsi-Cola was first invented by Caleb Bradham in his pharmacy in 1898. The store is located in the original location where Bradham first invented Pepsi-Cola. The Birthplace of Pepsi is owned and operated by Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of New Bern, Inc. and first opened its doors on the 100th Anniversary of Pepsi-Cola.

I don't know if you can get it where you live but Cheerwine is a soft drink that is made in north Carolina and can only be found around here. Texas Pete hot sauce is from North Carolina. Mount Olive pickles are made in North Carolina. The first Pepsi was made here. We are famous for our pork BBQ. The first Hardees was in N.C. If you can get some Cheerwine shipped to you I think the kids would love it.

Most of the ones I can think of have already been discussed....
another I know of is "Calabash Seafood". Basically fish or shrimp that's been heavily battered and deep-fried.

There are also some Moravian foods (Moravians were a religious group from Germany & Czechoslovakia that settled in Old Salem in the 1700s). Moravian sugar cookies, sugarcake, lovefeast buns, etc.

Shortly after moving to North Carolina from Ohio we became addicted to North Carolina sweet tea. Not quite sure of the proper recipe, but I think it involves corn syrup (rather than straight sugar).
