Giving your money away?

Matthew 19:21-24

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

If not Why?

And what is he saying here....

Matthew 6:24

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Money.

And this?

Acts 2:44-45

All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.

Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.

I'm pretty sure they've been ignoring that for about 1800 years.

Misinterpreting? That's one of the clearest verses in the Bible.

You miss the point of the passage. In Matthew 19:16 The rich young man is asking "What good thing must I do to have eternal life?" Jesus responded by telling the young man to obey the commandments, 19:17.

In 19:20 the young man says "all these I kept. What do I still lack?"

The young man in this story felt a lacking in his life although he had obeyed all the commandments. His heart was wedded to his money. For him, he would need to break the hold money had on him in-order to have eternal life.

Then look at Matthew 19:26. "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Passages can be parsed so that you get the meaning that you want but you must read the whole thing in context.

Money is not the root of all evil, it is the DESIRE for money that is the root of all evil.

God Bless

This is not true. The may Christ was talking too, loved his wealth more than God. It is clear as the man went away sad. Remember Joseph, who had the borrowed tomb, would have been very wealthy. You might also want to look at the history of some of the largest company in the US. Kraft food, for example, the man started selling cheese he gave loved God and paid his tithes, God blessed him greatly by the time he was old, he gave 70% of his imcome back to the Lord, and still could not out give God. The same for Mr. Colgate. God wants people to be suscesful. not the other way aournd. But the wealth must never be put before God

Jesus was making a point as to what is first in someones life . what do you love more money or God . If It's God then take some of your money and help the ones who need it . and if it's money you put first in your life (like a lot of rich people do , and will not help the poor but just keep stock piling their money in banks ) then it is easier for the camel to go through the eye of a needle.

In Heaven, the greatest wealth one can posess is wisdom and knowledge of God. All the 'treasures' in God's Kingdom can not compare to the glorious riches of 'knowing God personally'. The man you mention that the Word of God speaks of does not know nor does he understand the 'value' of God's love for him. He has measured his own worth by what he owns. Many genuine believers give away their wealth for the sake of the Kingdom, others give and yet God continues to bless them. It is God who has the ability and right to judge the 'generosity' of one's heart. For only He truely knows the sacrifices each one makes on account of their love for Him.

once you've wealth and far of money, you would possibly want to spend a lot of time preserving or reinvesting that money. From the dominion of Christ's attitude the rich guy had his back to the invisible Kingdom of Christ and that is what he did. He changed into certain by technique of his wealth and spent more advantageous time searching after His wealth and NO time led by technique of the Spirit of God looking for the dominion. with his back to the dominion, the rich mathatved evidently contained in the flesh and that organic existence cost him his soul and he went to hell. In maximum international locations the poor are poorer because their backs are also grew to grow to be adversarial to the invisible Kingdom of Christ contained in the straightforward. aren't to any extent further Democrats the advocates for most if no longer all of united statesa.'s poor? placed a compass on the political area and that i garantee you'll see all Democrats face west and characteristic their backs to the east and to the dominion of Christ it is immediately in the front of the Republican wing.

All Jesus was saying that love for material things keeps away from achieving pleasure of God.Quran excells in the quality of instruction in this context by saying that you cannot be good believer unless you present your loved belongings for the sake of God.

The message doesn't mean give everything you have away, you took the scripture out of context. Jesus is talking about people that like to do good works and try and buy there way into heaven. People that are puffed up in there wealth, and think they are better. Jesus was just saying give it away because you are greedy, He already knew the young man would walk away. Also it is saying give up your sins, and believe in me that I will take care of you. Obviously God doesn't want us to give everything away and just live homeless.

1) Jesus knew the "rich young ruler's" heart. It's about relationship TO money...not the amount. It was a test...the rich young man failed.

2) Notice Jesus never asked Mary, Martha and Lazarus to sell their cool house in Bethany, did He?? No. Jesus knew their hearts and their relationship to wealth.

Primoa, you said it perfectly. No where does the Bible say that a rich man can't enter Heaven. It just says that it is much harder.
