A standard UK licence is fine. The only time you really need to bother about an international licence is if your own licence is not in English.

If you're there for less than a year, a UK driving licence will do. However, there is an minimum age limit to hire a car - I think it used to be 21 when I was there in 1996 but not sure what it is now.

When I was in Austrialia in 2001 I couldnt hire a car as I was under 25 for insurance purposes however a full UK driving licence is enough but I also had an international driving licence

I brought my driver's licence with me and had no trouble hiring a car. The hire company also wanted to see my passport. I was on a month's holiday. If you are going to live there longterm, you may need to apply for an Australian licence

I hired a car on my Uk licence ok but it may be worth getting and International Driving Permit (IDP). it is available over the counter at a post office or through the AA.
Full details and Country requirements are available on the AA website so it is worth having a look.

Take both parts of your UK licence and you'l be fine provided you are old enough to hire a car. There is a minimum age but not sure what it is.

No as long as you have a valid licence and you name is easily understood by the people that are going to hire the car to you.
