All foreign people in France should have an ID at all times, being a passport with all visa needed for the person or an European ID for the countries where they have such.
I think the French should have an ID too, but I am not sure about that.

So yes, you need a passport for France.
You may not need to show it, if you travel within the Schengen agreement area, but you have to have it.
Coming from England you will need to show your passport (or European ID.)

This depends on where you are coming from. If you reside in continental Europe (does not include the United Kingdom or Ireland) then no passport is required unless you are flying.

If you are from the United Kingdom or Ireland then a passport is required.

If you are a non EU citizen then a visa in addition to a passport may also be required to enter France.

hello,
Do you mean passport or visa.
in some cases a person requires to have passport if even traveling within his/her home-country.
so,
passport is necessary anyway.
Are you sure you don't need visa?
