You can't. It's his choice to get into things that are addictive, and some people have 'addictive personalities' where they'll get hooked on just about anything.
Best to move on because unless he seeks professional help, he's not headed for a positive place in Life.

You can't stop an addict. Most have to hit rock bottom before they seek help. If he is a true addict and won't seek help you should leave as he WILL drag you down with him.
If he is experimenting with different things he may not be an addict at all, just curious. I'm not saying that is healthy either, but in that case you tell him to stop or you are history and then stick to your guns.
Lying to you and doing things behind your back would indicate to me the guy has a problem so watch for that if he tells you he'll stop. Just to be on the safe side. It is amazing how people with addictions can hide it for a long time from even those closest to them.
I sure hope he stops whatever he's been doing that has you concerned. Best of luck.

Addiction isn't something someone is "getting into" They either are, or are not. If they are I don't think there is much you can do. An addict has to WANT TO end the addiction themselves. Nothing anyone does or says to them will make much difference.

i think it's not the matter of choices but it's the matter of understanding of oneself. When it comes to addiction, even the person choose be be good and avoiding the stuff he use to do. However without the total surrender of giving up. It is still useless. Let him do his own way of getting into addiction

Addiction is right out from your mind.Till the day he feels he need to stop,he will continue it(maybe bcoz he finds it more entertaining). If he is strong and mature enough to understand his priorities in life,he will improve. But yeah, you didnt mention which sort of addiction?

You can talk to him, but if he wants to experiment, you probably can't stop him. If he gets seriously into drugs, alcohol, etc, the best thing you can do is walk away. The heartache of watching this first-hand, close up, may be more than you want to endure.
Be sure he knows that you're ready to do that, though.
