"Don't Laugh at Me"
I'm a little boy with glasses, the one they call a "geek"
A little girl who never smiles cuz I got braces on my teeth
And I know how it feels to cry myself to sleep
I'm that kid on every playground who’s always chosen last
A single teenage mother tryin' to overcome my past
You don't have to be my friend but is it too much to ask
Don't laugh at me; don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In God's eyes we're all the same
Some day we'll all have perfect wings
I'm the beggar on the corner
You’ve passed me on the street
I wouldn't be out here begging if I had enough to eat
And don't think I don't notice that our eyes never meet
I'm Fat. I'm Thin. I’m Short. I'm Tall. I'm Deaf. I'm Blind.
Hey aren't we all?
Don't laugh at me; don’t call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In God's eyes we're all the same
Don't laugh at me.. :(
With ~Love~ In Christ.. :)

It's too bad that you have to resort to god fables to say why discrimination is wrong. If anything, religion teaches people that they are somehow superior for believing in a superstition.
Sorry, but as an atheist, I really don't feel that Christianity is a good model for treating everybody equally. It doesn't have a great track record of doing so.

Have any of you heard of balance? We tend to view everything as black and white and miss the complexities and interactions between different people and different attributes. For example, if I have only the attribute of love, how would I act? Would I ever tell someone their actions were wrong? What if their actions could cause them harm or hurt someone else? Then I might need to tell them, but they would view me as "unloving". It's because love has to be balanced with other attributes like justice. It's the same in community, there has to be a balance. Sometimes the good of the society as a whole outweighs the desires of an individual or a group of people. Sometimes obeying God will cause others pain & grief, especially if they are not open to God's will. For example, say God calls you to go to Africa to be a missionary doctor. You leave your parents, aunts, uncles, and friends behind, causing them pain and grief. Life is terrifically complex, not just on the physical level, but on an emotional level as well.

What a touching poem. Our flesh causes us to despise others that are not perfect while ignoring the fact that we, too, have our own imperfections. Especially kids who have no control yet. I am so sorry about your daughter. I'm sure you know this already being the true and strong Christian that I sense you to be but this scripture just came to my mind as I read about your daughter. "God works ALL things for good to those that love Him ...... " One other thing I wanted to say is that it is better to have a brain injury when one is young because there is a much better chance that the brain will create new neurons and reroute itself around the injury and that the child will be normal again. God bless you dear sister and your little ones.

I am saving this poem for my family to read and have a discussion about it at dinner. They don't make fun of people but they would put themselves in people shoes. It is always good to show children how others feel so in case they do decide to laugh they think about before doing it.
Sorry for you daughter. She should not be laughed at. (((((hugs)))))

Cute & valid.
Only it doesn't include the pain & ridicule experienced by those from the many non-Xian faiths by Xian extremists.

I was bullied at school for sexual ambiguity (not interested in boys).
In adulthood it has continued, thanks to religious propaganda. Your daughter has my sympathy and respect.
In return, the only pain I try and cause it to hold a mirror up to people.

Too bad that people have to improve their own faulty ego by hurting others isn't it.
