Paul wrote about that subject a lot to the early church - that just because he was preaching the gospel didn't mean he gave up the right to eat!

It is somewhat controversial I think - and sometimes unseemly - but I think as a responsible parishioner, if you get a copy of the church budget, and understand how and where they are spending their money - and what percentage goes to mission and charitable works (as opposed to Administration, Building Maintenance, Salaries, other overhead, etc.) - you can be comfortable and assured that God's money is being managed responsibly.

The profession of shaman has many advantages. It offers high status with a safe livelihood free of work in the dreary, sweaty sense. In most societies it offers legal privileges and immunities not granted to other men. But it is hard to see how a man who has been given a mandate from on High to spread tidings of joy to all mankind can be seriously interested in taking up a collection to pay his salary; it causes one to suspect that the shaman is on the moral level of any other man. But it’s lovely work if you can stomach it.

Why does it torment you folks so much with what Christan's do with their after tax income? God commanded that the faithful bring the first fruits of our increase into the house of the Lord. It has nothing to do with building bigger churches, paying salary etc. In our church, our pastor does not receive one cent from the church. On the contrary he pays tithes on two incomes, his retirement from the air force and his income as a math teacher. The money is used to pay the light bill, the water, phone, fuel for the vans, we provide food for the needy, emergency money for people in need.

Actually, offering is usually taken after the music and before the speechifyin'. Takes some of the performance anxiety off the preacher, I guess.

The bible speaks of paying tithes.....I don't mind giving money to a worthy cause....if the church is soul winning and bringing people to Jesus Christ....I went to a Halloween party at the church and the church gave free meals to anyone who walked in the door.......It had a wonderful Halloween party for all the kids with game and candy and fun.....rides and cotton candy and all kinds of things going on......That was where part of my money went....

As believers we give money to provide for the expenses of the church and to provide for church staff salaries. The Word is free, the building takes rent!!!

Most pastors are not paid as much as they deserve for all the work they do. Yes, there are some who take too much money from people and they will answer to God for it if they are greedy and exploit people for money. God totally hates that kind of behavior!!

I choose, in free will, to give 10% or more of all my before-taxes income to support the work of my church. I choose to put my money where my mouth is! :)

Donations are donations....fees are fees.

These things are clearly defined in legal codes. Churches, schools, athletic organizations, theatre groups, etc... all use these laws.
