I've used Proactive & it works but I didn't like the toner (strong scent) and didn't like the lotion much.

Oxy10 face wash or PanOxl bars (5-10% benzoyl peroxide) worked just as well.

I've also used Retin-A & Differin gel. These are prescription products but they really helped control my acne & give me smoother skin.

I tried Proactive and it didn't work at all for me, but I'm sure it works for others. As has been mentioned before, the single best thing you can do if you're serious about getting rid of acne is to see a dermatologist. I had acne into my mid 20s. I'd tried everything on the market and nothing worked until I got a prescription for Benzaclin. It's a combination of 2 medications and within 2 weeks my acne was gone. It was the only thing that ever worked for me. Go see a dermatologist and start looking for the treatment that will work for you.

No, i used proactive and everytng else on the market. Proactive is also very expensive. I've had acne my entire life then fially went to a dermatologist and got prescribed medication...i could not be happier! I am prescribed Minocyclin...which is a capsule i take once a day, and i was prescribed a face cream...Clinac BPO, which i use as needed. I have the same bottle of Clinac BPO that i bought a year ago, i hardly need to use it because the pills work wonders. I would def recommend to you to see a dermatologist....get prescribed medication and if you have insurance then your doctor visit will be covered and your medication will cost you like $10 month! Much cheaper then buying over the counter items every month. Good Luck

Proactive is really not a good product at all. You can even look at the forum at I believe it is acne.org or acne.com, I have read more horror stories than positive ones and it really dosen't surprise me especially for what they are putting in their products. I have been answering many questions like these because I am feel so strongly on this subject. My best friend is an esthetician and she said you would be better off putting comet cleanser on your face than proactive because it is so abrasive. Rodan and fields has also come out with a new product with a line called UNBLEMISH which my sister is on the ground level of selling. She is regretting it as her face has broken out horribly in a rashy mass of pimples. Once again I am not surprised. Do your homework before you dare putting any of these harmful chemicals on your face. Read about what each chemical is. I have been researching acne and face products for well over 2 yrs now and you would be amazed what is in these products and what we put on our face without even thinking. Many of them have such harsh preservatives to make for a veeery long shelf life or just nasty fillers to make the products cheap and spend their money on the advertisments and packaging. Many of these well known products contain things like, lauryl sulfates -Known to break out people, propolyene glycol, chemicals that contain petroleum based products, mineral oils, formeldahyde- which can later cause cancer and parabeans. It's a real mess and they do not care about you or your acne. I have had acne for years wich is now gone due to the fact of a change in habits and products. You need to go for Natural/organic based products with the least amount of preservatives possible, especially since alot of the preservatives can cause excema and contact dermatitis. My sister is selling rodan and fields yet she just started using a cream wash I formulated for her and her face is CLEARING UP! She can't believe it she even went back after a few days to use the Rodan and Fields to check to see which was working and her face broke out again. My company is about to launch in November for a natural/organic skin care line called Faerie Organic. I can custom make something for you very affordable, if you are interested contact me. I hate what these big companies do to people and how they become brainwashed by them, they don't care about you and your acne, essentially its all about the money. My ending piece of advice is either I can send you a great gentle product from my skincare line or if you arent interested please get an natural product from a place like whole foods.com, jason organic, trader joes has a few, or any health food store. And get your face back! (((Good luck)))

Honestly I used Proactive and it made my face breakout even worse at first but after using it for a while I could see a difference. Unfortunately if u are very busy like myself and forget to continuously us the product your back to square one. Unfortunately you will have to constantly use the products. If you think when it clears up you can stop NO NO NO. They will start to come back slowly but surely. But it is a good product. So prepare ur self for a life long journey (but u will have clear skin)!

Depends on what kind of skin you have. If it is dry and sensitive but breaks out in the "T" spot (like mine), I suggest olive oil based products (www.dhccare.com will send you free samples.) I even use extra extra virgin olive oil to remove my makeup. It's really inexpensive, works better and is way more gentle than commercial products, especially around the eyes.
