Alright,
i already own a xbox360 and i am thinking to get a playstation 3 and i have 2 questions, please
Please note :
'i am NOT going to see movies/listening music with the console' so i dunt thing the blue ray would be anything useful for me.
All i will be using it for will be playing games.
my first question is : Since there are many many Playstation 2 games out there, so it is very important for me, that the version of Playstation 3 i get BE compatible with all playstation 2 games.
So based on my expectation, what should i pay attention to when i am looking for a Playstation 3 ?
And my second question :
- I have hooked up my xbox360 to a normal flat 17'' monitor which only has VGA ( normal 15 pol monitor port that you use for your pc) and i am happy with it. Is it also possible to hook up Playstation 3 to such monitor? ( a monitor with normal 15 pol port that you use for your pc )
Many Thanks

1). You'll need Blu-ray, simply because PS3 exclusives size is 25GB and more.
2). For best backwards compatibility - the best choice is NTSC 60GB with hardware support (more than 90% of old games supported) - get it fast, because Sony had stopped to produce them. 80GB has software emulation - only ~80% of old games can be played. 20GB had hardware BC too, but it isn't available anymore, may be only on ebay.com or small independent game stores.
3). If you live in PAL region - 60GB is your only choice, it runs on software, no hardware BC console was produced for PAL regions (thanx to Sony).
4). For your monitor you'll need something like this (ask them first anyway if those adapters are PS3 compatible):

Answer: Your best choice would be the 60GB version if you can find one, since it uses the Emotion Engine for backwards compatibility and will allow you to play about 97% of all PS1 and PS2 games.
If you can't find the 60GB, then your next choice would be the 80GB, but the 80GB uses software emulation instead of the Emotion Engine which means that it will only allow you to play about 80% of all PS1 and PS2 games compared to 97% on the 60GB.
The 40GB version has NO BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY at all, so stay away from the 40GB.
#2-I have hooked up my xbox360 to a normal flat 17'' monitor which only has VGA ( normal 15 pol monitor port that you use for your pc) and i am happy with it. Is it also possible to hook up Playstation 3 to such monitor? ( a monitor with normal 15 pol port that you use for your pc )
Answer: NO. In order to hook up your PS3 to a computer monitor, the monitor HAS TO BE HDCP COMPLIANT. If the monitor is not HDCP compliant, you will NOT be able to hook it up to your PS3.
You can get all the adapters you want, but if the monitor is not HDCP compliant, you'll get a "Cannot Display Resolution" message.
HOPE THIS HELPS AND GOOD LUCK!

All I have to say is that since you already have a Xbox 360 you don't need a PS3. But if you're really interested on playing PS2 games then just buy a PS2 console incase you don't have one. Nowadays PS2 consoles are sold at a cheap price. Besides I heard that the 40GB PS3 cannot play any PS2 games, and the other versions like the 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB versions are not even fully backwards compatible with PS2 games.

OK first off, the older version is the 60GB model, and that's the one you want, it has hardware backward compatibility as it has the emotion engine built in to the box. The 20GB machine also has that but the 20GB doesn't have built-in wi-fi, which can be useful.
The 40GB doesn't have any backward compatibility, the 80GB uses software emulation for it's PS2 backward compatibility. Which is far less compatible.
Now as far as connecting it to a VGA connector, you'll need to buy an adapter, as the PS3 doesn't have a VGA out natively.

For the first question:
--- If you still want to play PS2 games, YOU HAVE TO LOOK FOR 20GB or OLD 40GB (since it will come for new 40GB - black and white version) and 60 GB.
The new 40GB and 80GB version will NOT fully compatible with PS2 game because they remove the PS2 chip. They use emulator to play PS2 games. Some games will not correctly display :(
So u have to "hunt" to the nearest market and ASK about the version of it that can FULLY compatible for PS2 game.
For second question:
--- Yes, it can. To make sure, ask the staff when u buy it.
Hope you will enjoy ur "future" PS3. Then we can play together.
