Bureaucracies are good at complicating things. I like to get back to basics. That said, you are absolutely correct. A driver's license is an official governmental identification card. Why should an illegal alien be given an official identification card? Essentially, the state, in an effort to make our roads safer, have given them a governmental sanction to be here. Yes, they would be aiding and abetting their presence in the State. If they want a driver's license, then they should first become legal residents of the State.
My wife had one or our cars totalled by one of the unlicensed illegal aliens. The subject does hit close to home.

10 months, and what has congress done, except to keep rewriting, and trying to push SCHIP through over and over again? I certainly hope they know the majority of this country does not want expansion of that and it is time to do something about the illegal immigrants now! The SCHIP program in effect now is not being utilized to it's fullest for children and more able bodied adults, and probably illegals are the ones taking advantage of this program.
Wasn't it illegals who flew planes into the WTC and the Pentagon? Don't tell me they are not involved in criminal activities either. It is bad enough we already have criminals in this society without having more coming across our borders daily.
This activity needs to be squashed for Americas security. There is a front door to this country and the message needs to be sent, if you want to come here, then do it legally!
Sanctuary cities, what is that? And why? I agree that it is "aiding and abetting," but is it according to the constitution? I think it should be argued!
They are costing us much more than money. We have already had people murdered, and other wrongdoings by illegals. Yes, we have criminals here, we just don't need more from across the border.

It is a State Issue with Federal Guidelines that should be... should be followed. If you look at the laws, it is generally the intent of the laws to make that the case.
In fact, the Governors of the states have found more ways to circumvent that law than you can believe. Federal laws have tightened up and the whole process of the drivers license is moving over to the Federal Government and the real I.D.
Once the illegal aliens have gotten those drivers licenses, they are very hard to find.

In the (unenforced) USC portions related to illegal immigration, it seems that
transporting undocumented workers is a criminal offense more serious than just the border jumping.
Should these drivers with the special driver's licences then be detained immediately for that offense?
Let them have the licenses then trump it with federal law and round them all up and charge them with the greater violation of transporting (themselves and other illegals) and then deport them after making them pay the fine.
How many laws must we overlook to keep this situation of illegal invaders an issue. If our leaders would get some d*(*n balls and do something.....
harumph. politicians are really annoying me how they are ignoring this issue. It only gives the invader sympathizers more time to come up with legalistic and moralist challenges.
instead of calling them illegal aliens we should start calling them what they are:
INVADERS
invaders = illegal aliens/immigrants/workers
invader babies = anchor babies
traitors + foreign interests = licences for illegals
licences for illegals = aiding and abetting
only problem is that we don't consider the invaders to be from nations hostile to the U.S. and therefore are not technically classified as invaders subject to constitutional authority.
Our own legal system is going to be the death of our nation. Either enforce it or change it and lets get this issue solved.
I'm screaming again...
***** added for i****s ************
it is a criminal offense you i****s. Look at the law in the USC section and quit telling people that being illegal alien is only civil penalty -- it is a criminal federal offense -- quit being an i***t -- or you are illegal sympathizer or illegal who wants to spread false info -- look up the USC dealing with immigration in section 8 around ~1325 or so and the answers are clear

The thing I find interesting is the wide spread opposition to Governor Spitzer's proposed bill by both Democrats and Republicans. They pretty much all agree (for the most part) that giving persons who are in this country illegally a legal drivers license is just about the stupidest thing they've ever heard. Just about every serving New York Democrat and Republican has come out against it, except for .... you guess it ... Sen. Hillary Clinton. Gee ... I wonder why that is ...?
Personally, I think its kind of strange they're making a big deal out of New York doing it -- California has been doing it unofficially for years. I don't know how many times I've seen hispanic illegal immigrants at the DMV filing for drivers licenses. The thing of it is they seem to only issue licenses to illegals if they're of hispanic origin ... when they turn in their application they don't ask for any type of legal identification to determine if they're in the country legally. However, if you're anything other than hispanic you have to show at least two forms of proof you're in the country legally. I know this because I've gone to help friends from Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Belgium, Sweden, and Germany get licenses while they were studying in California. All the hispanic friends weren't asked to show any kind of proof they were in the US legally ... all the European friends were grilled for proof of legal status. Even I was thinking, "geesh ... I think you guys are going a little overboard." My friend from Belgium had to wait over 45 minutes while they verified the Student Visa in her passport with the State Department ... I didn't see them doing that to any of the 50+ illegals in the DMV while we were there (and you may ask how I know they were illegals ... I can speak fluent Spanish ... I could hear them talking about identification and subjects that pertained to being in the country illegally ... it has nothing to do with xenophobia ... its a matter of fact).
I not only think if you're in this country illegally you shouldn't be issued a legal drivers license ... I think you should be deported and arrested if you ever try coming back in. And if you think that sounds harsh ... you should hear what my foreign friends who have immigrated here legally have to say on the matter (and quite of few of them are hispanic) ... they get livid.

The National Debt is $9,081,429,306,322.39 , That debt has been growing at the rate of $1,44 Billion a day since Sept 29, 2006.
This years debt is $501, Billion higher than it was last year. Since Sept 11, 2001 the national debt has grow $2,8 Trillion.
That means your new born baby already owes the government $29,929.99 as dose every US resident today, tomorrow it will be higher.
Who do we owe this debt to ? The big 3 are Japan,China and Saudi, Arabia.

Yes and no. If you don't given them out, they will drive anyway and that will create more unsafe roads in our highways and streets.
If they can't get a driver's license, they are also unlikely to be driving with insurance, not to mention that you don't know if they can actually drive safely or understand traffic signs. I think that everyone, regardless of their immigration status, driving a motor vehicle in this country should be licensed to do so.

Yes. it is.
Yes, we do.
I think the current nominee, who was Praised by even the well-named Dick Durbin before Turban Durbin started complaining about him, would get a decent start.
but only having about a year or so in office might not give him the ability to do much about it.

You're absolutely right and our 'so called' politicians couldn't figure that out. Educated Idiots is what they are. Solution to the problem......let the American citizen vote on it, and we would see who is smarter and know what the pubic wants.

Makes sense to me. However, Congress will never approve of a AG that would do something like that. :(
